Although by the third day of this sort of weather I began to wonder if a trip to NSW to film trains had been such a good idea. Thankfully the sun did eventually come out of hiding every now and then, however this Cityrail "Hunter" Railcar is seen during one of the many heavy downpours that I had to endure. The "Hunter" railcars are the latest addition to the Cityrail diesel railcar fleet, having entered service in 2006, and operate exclusively in the NSW Hunter Valley. We stopped in to check out the some of the great natural experiences that can be enjoyed in Mackay and its surrounds. We started with a trip to Cape Hillsborough where we spotted a couple of Kangaroos on the beach. Pretty amazing stuff! We then headed into the Eungella national park to check out some of their rainforest walks. After we explored these magnificent forests we decided to head down to a locals hot spot Finch Hatton Gorge for a nice refreshing swim !

Once you cross the Daintree River, you enter into a region that is home to the oldest rainforest on the planet. Cape Tribulation is a small village nestled in the heart of this rainforest and is where the frontier of Queenslands' north really begins. As you pass through the lowland and tropical rainforest make sure to take some time and explore these areas as they have excellent coastal lookouts. This area is literally where the great barrier reef meets the rainforest. You can drive yourself or take a tour up the Bloomfield Track. This is the major coastal highway north, Most times will will need a Four Wheel Drive (4WD) vehicle to drive alongside the coast.
