THE PALEO DIET grows out of the belief that we were intended to eat off the land: what walks on it, grows from it, or swims in its waters. It s about sticking to the kind of foods that human beings were born to ingest (fresh fruits and vegetables, seafood, lean meats, and natural fats), and excluding those that were developed later (grains, legumes, dairy products, salt, refined sugar, and processed oils). But who, exactly, is a Paleoista? She is the embodiment of the modern day Paleo lifestyle. She s feminine, fit, and knows that eating Paleo will give her the boundless energy she needs to maintain her insanely busy lifestyle. As the ultimate Paleoista, Nell Stephenson knows exactly how to incorporate the Paleo diet into one s day-to-day life with ease, efficiency, and style. Paleoista is an easy-to-follow guide for any woman interested in reaching her healthiest potential and includes: A Kitchen Makeover Guide, to get started on the right foot A Healthy Grocery Store Field Trip, to stock a Paleo-friendly kitchen Two Weekly Hours in the Kitchen, to prep a week s worth of meals ahead of time A Move-to-Lose Plan, to show you what to do with all your extra energy Sticking with It Socially, including how to order at restaurants, go to a party, travel, keep your kids Paleo, and get together with friends without compromising your Paleo eating plan And More Than Fifty Simple, Delicious Paleo Recipes!

2014 National Book Award Finalist A New York Times Bestseller An audacious, darkly glittering novel set in the eerie days of civilization s collapse, Station Eleven tells the spellbinding story of a Hollywood star, his would-be savior, and a nomadic group of actors roaming the scattered outposts of the Great Lakes region, risking everything for art and humanity. One snowy night Arthur Leander, a famous actor, has a heart attack onstage during a production of King Lear. Jeevan Chaudhary, a paparazzo-turned-EMT, is in the audience and leaps to his aid. A child actress named Kirsten Raymonde watches in horror as Jeevan performs CPR, pumping Arthur s chest as the curtain drops, but Arthur is dead. That same night, as Jeevan walks home from the theater, a terrible flu begins to spread. Hospitals are flooded and Jeevan and his brother barricade themselves inside an apartment, watching out the window as cars clog the highways, gunshots ring out, and life disintegrates around them. Fifteen years later, Kirsten is an actress with the Traveling Symphony. Together, this small troupe moves between the settlements of an altered world, performing Shakespeare and music for scattered communities of survivors. Written on their caravan, and tattooed on Kirsten s arm is a line from Star Trek: ?Because survival is insufficient. But when they arrive in St. Deborah by the Water, they encounter a violent prophet who digs graves for anyone who dares to leave. Spanning decades, moving back and forth in time, and vividly depicting life before and after the pandemic, this suspenseful, elegiac novel is rife with beauty. As Arthur falls in and out of love, as Jeevan watches the newscasters say their final good-byes, and as Kirsten finds herself caught in the crosshairs of the prophet, we see the strange twists of fate that connect them all. A novel of art, memory, and ambition, Station Eleven tells a story about the relationships that sustain us, the ephemeral nature of fame, and the beauty of the world as we know it.

In Outbound, a quadriplegic test pilot gets selected for a one-way trip through the galaxy, meeting his neighbors. Stewart Blackwell is a very educated and experienced biological engineer specializing in research but who has become a quadriplegic and is bitter at his new status in life. He is approached by an Air Force General to participate in a new program at Wright Patterson Air Force Base utilizing robotics and virtual reality in an attempt to return him to a productive life with three other quadriplegics. They are told the program is to develop virtual reality programming for computer simulation of their previous professions. When they become comfortable with their new virtual reality world, they learn that their personal consciousness is being transferred to fully functional robotic clones. The General explains that they have found life in a distant star system many light years from Earth. They have also designed and built a space ship to travel to the new life discovery. A few months on their journey, they are suddenly approached by an alien ship that fires on them. They take evasive action by slowing their ship, causing the alien ship to move out of synch with their speed and it cannot catch them when they fire their main engines again. A few weeks later, another alien ship approaches them. This time, the alien occupant speaks their language and introduces himself.

This is a true tale of family adventure and travel through the Balkans, Egypt and Sri Lanka. It tells the real life story of a family escaping the rat race and "the norm", only to arrive at their new home in Sri Lanka one day before the 2004 tsunami. There are no other books in publication telling the story of surviving the five waves that hit the beaches of Sri Lanka that day in such detail- and there are no other books telling the story of a family choosing to take their children out of school and go off travelling for good. It's a genuine story of the highs and lows of home schooling, building a home and a business, and bonding as a family despite the challenges the world and nature throw at them. The tale is told in a light-hearted, humorous way; providing a real insight into what it's actually like to leave the system for. Somewhere Different. There are two more books in production, making this the first of a unique trilogy. The pages of this book will take you on an extraordinary road trip through Croatia, Macedonia, Albania, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, with an ordinary family in an old American camper van. There's plenty of action, but with a healthy dose of tell-it-how-it-is realism throughout, and the journey finally takes them to what will become the Longest Day of their lives.

Madrid has gone from shanty town to imperial capital in the last seven centuries. The local writers of Time Out Madrid assist travelers in seeing the city as a native, suggesting where to stay, eat, shop and experience its cultural offerings. Famed for its wild nights and lazy days, Madrid provides a whole lot more, from spectacular opera productions, chirpy folkloric zarzuela, and cutting-edge cuisine to ancient, tiled tabernas, designer-shoe shopping, and numerous flea markets. Written by resident journalists, Time Out Madrid also covers the artistic jewels housed in the Prado, Thyssen, and Reina Sofia, as well as the etiquette of watching a bullfight or joining in with a flamenco performance, as well as where to stay and how to escape the city heat. Also included are the intriguing stories behind some of the city's best-known paintings, where to find gourmet tapas, the yoga centers, spas, and Turkish baths. Climbing, skiing, and hang-gliding are all within reach of the city, and suggested trips out of town are also recommended.

No stranger to balancing an intensely demanding work schedule with the stresses of keeping her family together, AJ Palladino now faces another challenge: she is leaving her young son home with her ailing parents so that she can travel to the site of a new case involving a nuclear power plant in peril. Colleton River, a new, one-of-a-kind nuclear facility designed to create medical isotopes with the potential to save millions of lives, has recently been plagued by a series of unexplained mishaps. The accidents have caused the locals to protest the plant, drawing the attention of an anti-nuclear protest group as well as several home-grown terrorists who sense an opportunity to sow fear and chaos. The plant's owner, Owen Grandel, has traveled from South Carolina to West Virginia to personally ask AJ for help. AJ knows she's going to have her hands full investigating the accidents and calming the situation at the plant. What she doesn't foresee is her simple business trip turning into disaster, with her family coming apart at the seams in her absence-and her young son disappearing. September in Provence is a travelogue in journal form with eighty plus photos of a four-week vacation in Provence. The vacation was composed and organized on our own rather than submitting to a packaged tour via bus or boat cruise. It is an account of the travel experiences of eight aging American baby boomers day-tripping Provence with a side trip to Barcelona from a base in Aix-en-Provence (Aix). The base lodging is a rustic, third-story apartment with no elevator in the heart of the historic district of Aix near the Place Richelme which hosts a daily al fresco farmers market. Aix, in a sunny and warm climate, itself possesses an abundance of attractions, café life, shopping, a significant university population, and a popular, central gathering place, the Cours Mirabeau. Within an hour plus drive from Aix lie Arles, Avignon, Nimes, St. Remy, Marseille, Cassis, Uzes, and the Luberon villages of Fountain du Vaucluse, Gordes, Menerbes, Bonnieux, Apt, and Loumarin. Within two hours are St. Tropez, Grasse, Cannes, Nice, and Monaco. Barcelona is a five-hour cross country run on the autoroute. The journal communicates the pleasures of traveling in southern France and details the recollections, color, some history, and highlights of each of the Provencal towns visited. In Barcelona, the Rambla and the Gothic Quarter sights and tapas are featured in some depth. Moreover, the journal describes the daily experiences and encounters of foreign travel that present one with out-of-one's comfort zone, experiences and refreshingly new perspectives and insight on custom and culture. The former relates to negotiating narrow, unfamiliar streets while the latter is expressed in testing one's language skills in the markets and restaurants. Lastly, the photos capture the essence of our travels.

One day in August 2014, after much planning and arranging accommodation, train journeys and flights, etc, I arrived in India for the second time. I had decided to include a quick trip to Nepal to see the sun rise over Everest from Nagarkot, a short distance from Kathmandu, which at the time of planning, held little interest to me. How Kathmandu changed my mind! Some of the world's most beautiful and interesting architectures are there, apart from the magnificence of the surrounding Himalayas. The majority of my stay was in India, especially Rajasthan, which must surely contain some of the world's most glorious collection of forts and palaces and, of course, doors, which I found intriguing. I have always thought doors held romantic mystery and fascination along with a certain amount of curiosity. How many doors have we seen slightly ajar and tried to peer in? Having replaced my old camera with a reasonable one and a good mobile phone camera, I set off on my hot and sweaty peregrination into the depths of India. August and September are not the best months for travelling the subcontinent due to the heat and humidity at that time of year. I had, however, escaped the cold and wet of a Tasmanian winter. I clicked merrily along, covering a distance of then thousand kilometers and snapping over four thousand photographs, many of which I deleted on arriving back in Australia. As I was showing my photographs to a friend, it was suggested that I had beautiful pictures of doors-and why don't I publish them? So here we have a collection of doors of India and Nepal that I hope you, dear reader, have as much pleasure in viewing as I had photographing them.

Farewell to faux pas! Minding your manners is an acquired skill, but what serves you well elsewhere could trip you up in Japan. Save yourself possible embarrassment with Etiquette Guide to Japan. An inside look at Japanese social graces, it answers all the questions of the thoughtful traveler. Although often overshadowed by a modern facade, long-standing traditional aspects of Japan's culture still influence the country and almost everyone in it. Concrete evidence of this traditional culture can be seen everywhere-in the ancient arts and crafts that are still important parts of everyday life, in the many shrines and temples that dot the nation, and in the modern comeback of traditional fashions such as kimono and yakata robes. To many Western visitors, however, the most obvious example of this traditional culture's strength is the unique etiquette of the Japanese. Like many nations, Japan has experienced vast political, social, and economic change over the past century. But enough of Japan's traditional etiquette remains to set the Japanese apart socially and psychologically, and to make success in socializing and doing business with them a special challenge for Westerners. This updated and expanded edition of the classic etiquette guide addresses all the newest developments, trends and protocols that every traveler needs to know, from the tea ceremony to the subway to the bathroom.

From New York Times bestselling author and former top prosecutor Linda Fairstein comes an electrifying new thriller rich with the riveting behind-the-scenes authenticity that only she can offer. It's going to be a tough trial. Manhattan sex-crimes prosecutor Alexandra Cooper's case, involving an attack on investment banker Paige Vallis, would be difficult to prove even without the latest development - it seems that Paige has something to hide. Most of her story is clear. She'd had dinner with New York consultant Andrew Tripping three times before the March evening when she accepted his invitation to accompany him to his apartment. But what occurred that night? Why didn't she leave the apartment when he started to act strangely? What about Tripping's little boy, Dulles? What happened to the child that fateful evening? And who is the strange man whose appearance in the courtroom seems to terrify Paige? While Alex's police detective friend Mercer Wallace helps her learn more of the sad details behind the increasingly puzzling rape case, colleague Mike Chapman is uptown in a decaying Harlem brownstone where eighty-two-year-old McQueen Ransome has been murdered, her apartment ransacked. What could this impoverished, elderly woman have possessed that could have inspired such violence? Photographs on the wall suggest that "Queenie" was once a beautiful and voluptuous young woman who traveled to faraway places. Could there be a clue to her murder in her exotic background? Her murder will be only the first. Others follow, as the tragic strands of the Paige Vallis and McQueen Ransome cases begin to converge in a poignant alliance of two women from very different worlds. Faced with formidable personal and professional choices, Alex must learn the old lesson that appearances can deceive, even as she heads for a showdown in which her wits and her courage will be tested as never before. With its winning combination of courtroom drama, historical detail, and the intrigu

What if you could take your grandchildren on a trip back in time to 1956? This novel combines nostalgia with a grandparent's special relationship with his grandchildren in a tale of time travel. As he clearly sees their reality, he resents the blatant deterioration of our current society. Evident is the results of inflation, moral degradation, and the destruction of family values. It is his intent that though their view of the future is dim, and having been a victim of child of abuse himself, to show them that their ten year old lives will soon change, and what they observe and experience will never control their destiny. Imagine a grandfather taking his granddaughters on journey back in time, when he was their age and the year was 1956. Together, he shares what his life was like as he walks with them as equals in this innocent age of nickel pop and penny candy. His relationship with his granddaughters is a close one, and he mourns the loss of so many freedoms that he enjoyed when he was their age. They would nver know a parent sending them out to play and saying, "be home before dark," or, "just stay in the neighborhood." At ten years old, in 2011, they unfortunately are aware of what the word "predator" means, and having their television censored for foul language or sexual content. So when telling them of the Mickey Mouse Club, or Winky Dink, they laugh as if it was all fantasy and a fabrication of their Grandpa's mind. He shares a special bond with them, because two are in a broken home shattered by divorce, and two are adopted and have formerly suffered the abuse of the foster 'care' system. Being a product of a broken home and abuse himself, he understands their fears and recognizes that this new generation is having their childhood and innocence destroyed by our culture. So at the critical age of ten, he lets them visit an era when children could walk freely to the park. A time before electronics dominated and interaction with friends and family was all impor

The year was 1928 when two young Hungarians decided to travel around the world on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with sidecar. Like Robert Fulton, whose circumnavigation of the globe is chronicled in his popular 1937 book One Man Caravan, Sulkowsky thought his was the first around-the-world journey on a motorcycle. This account of his trip with friend Gyula Bartha gives a very clear-eyed view of the world in the 1930s - a world where the colonizing influence of Europe had affected much of Africa and Asia but not all. The two experienced the riches of sultans, witnessed remote cultures and extreme poverty in far-flung villages, travelled through wilderness with the ever-present danger of wild animals, and traversed roads of all descriptions. They dealt with mud, sand, extreme heat and cold, and rivers where the motorcycle had to be taken apart to cross in a small boat. This intelligent and engaging book, now in a paperback edition, offers a unique world view between the World Wars, flavored by the great diversity of cultures and the wide variety of human life that exists on the planet.
