The Silverado Squatters (1883) is Robert Louis Stevenson's travel memoir of his two-month honeymoon trip with Fanny Vandegrift (and her son Lloyd Osbourne) to Napa Valley, California, in 1880.In July 1879, Stevenson received word that his future American wife's divorce was almost complete, but that she was seriously ill. He left Scotland right away and travelled to meet her in Monterey, California, (his trip detailed in The Amateur Emigrant (1894) and Across the Plains (1892)). Broken financially, suffering from a lifelong fibrinous bronchitis condition, and with his writing career at a dead end, he was nursed back to health by his doctor, his nurse, and his future wife, while living briefly in Monterey, San Francisco, and Oakland. His father having provided money to help, on May 19, 1880, he married the San Francisco native, whom he had first met in France in 1875, soon after the events of An Inland Voyage. Still too weak to undertake the journey back to Scotland, friends suggested Calistoga, in the upper Napa Valley, with its healthy mountain air. They first went to the Hot Springs Hotel in Calistoga, but unable to afford the 10 dollars a week, they spent an unconventional honeymoon in an abandoned three-story bunkhouse at a derelict mining camp called "Silverado" on the shoulder of Mount Saint Helena in the Mayacamas Mountains. There they managed to "squat" for two months during a pleasant California summer, putting up makeshift cloth windows and hauling water in by hand from a nearby stream while dodging rattlesnakes and the occasional fog banks so detrimental to Stevenson's health. The Silverado Squatters provides some interesting views of California during the late 19th century. Stevenson uses the first telephone of his life. Diane McBain is an American film and television actress who was born in Ohio, and raised in Glendale, California. She reached her peak of popularity as a Warner Bros. contract star during the late 1950s and early 1960s. She is perhaps best known for starring in the 1960-62 hit ABC-TV series, Surfside Six, and appearing opposite Elvis Presley in Spinout. The last 2 letters are both written Easter Sunday 2010: one, by the author to his friend Rudy. They met in first grade in September 1932; their friendship has lasted 78 years. The other letter is from the youngest of the author s 4 children, his son Matt, who was born in 1959 after 3 daughters. Before the author retires in June 1991from teaching advanced placement English for 40 years at 2 high schools, he corresponds with several former students, friends, and family, including 4 younger brothers who live in Chicago, St. Louis, San Francisco, and Seattle. After he retires, the author travels extensively on escorted tours to continental Europe and England, as well as to Turkey, and several times visits a friend in London. During his retirement years, the author battles prostate cancer and heart surgery, tutors for an adult literacy program at Abington township s public library, makes several trips to New York for Broadway shows and Metropolitan Opera productions. After Matt gives his father a laptop, the author spends most of his time writing about his travels. After his oldest grand-child marries, she gives birth to a son. The author becomes a great-grandfather.

The photo book presents a series of bus stops photographed by Michael Kruscha while traveling. The trip began in Oman, where the artist encountered bus stops strewn along hundreds of kilometers of desert road.
