Recording information: 882 Studios; Deuce Mobile Studio; Doppler Studios, Atlanta, GA. Official above-ground releases of mixtapes don't come much more pure than Don't Be S.A.F.E.'s appearance on Def Jam, seeing as how Atlanta party rapper Trinidad James dropped it to the underground only four months previously. Def Jam's retail edition is faithful to the original with some very minor differences - tracks with long fades are tightened by mere seconds, and there's a superstar-filled remix tacked to the end - but, the meteoric viral rise of single "All Gold Everything" - three million plus "views" in just months - fast-tracked this EP-length effort, and for the better. No ridiculous features or radio-friendly dreck was injected into the main effort, but even on this street-born debut, rookie James - who had only been rapping for a year as the release dropped - comes off as a crafty and creative executive producer. Off-world interludes ("Gold on My MacBook" floats over the cloudiest of productions as James delivers something between a fever dream and a pre-club pep talk) and casually tossed-off sequels ("One More Molly" takes the popular "Popped a molly, I'm sweating" line out of "All Gold Everything" and trunk rumbles its way through a drug trip) surround the hits, making the rapper's limited, hoarse, loose, Future-meets-Waka-meets-Wiz-meets-2 Chainz style less of an EP-length issue. Still, the hedonistic party numbers are undoubtedly the thing. Get past the reckless drug use and disrespect for all humanistic everything and "All Gold Everything" is the winning combination of Ke$ha-dumb with Three 6 Mafia style, rattled off in one verse with plenty of return visits for the hook. "Females Welcomed" turns a mush-mouthed, junkyard valentine of a lyric ("Now my side b*tch is my main b*tch 'cuz my main ho ain't feelin' me no mo, no mo") into an irresistible earworm before traveling into hipster territory with an indie electronica break down, while "Madden on Gamecub.

Audio Mixers: Emika; Ema Jolly. Recording information: Deafkid Studios, Ipswich (2012); EMusik, Berlin (2012); Music Studios, Czech TV (2012); NY (2012); Wilding Sounds, Bristol, UK (2012).On her second full-length, DVA, Emika works from the same ice-blue palette, but pulls back on the wobbling dubstep bass frequencies and trendy production to let her plaintive female vocals take center stage. Although a more fragile release, DVA balances the Berlin (by way of Bristol) artist's pop and experimental sides, just as her self-titled debut did. "Young Minds" and "Sing to Me" reinterpret the chilled, pulsing soundscapes of "Drop the Other" and "Double Edged," and the shimmering darkwave ballads "Fight for Your Right" and "Mouth to Mouth" resemble a cross-hatching of Grimes and the Knife. Poppy tendencies keep the song structures tight, but Emika's adherence to a dark, dystopian vision sets her apart from the mainstream. Like goth queen Siouxsie Sioux, she seems heartbroken and incapable of pleasure, achingly singing through tears on "Dem Worlds" and "Primary Colours," and then seeking vengeance without a hint of remorse on "Sleep with My Enemies." A mix of retro and modern ideas keeps the release interesting, as do the slight soundscape shifts between shadowy synth pop, electroclash, and witch house. Even though Emika's deadpan, frosty attitude keeps the audience at arm's length and DVA lacks an obvious stand out single (with the exception of the tripped-out cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game"), it is a cohesive, rewarding album that cleverly manages to dodge the usual sophomore pitfalls. The debut is the one with the hits that draw you into her dark mood, while DVA is the sludgy one you sink into and wallow in for a while. ~ Jason Lymangrover

Lasse Hallstrom (CHOCOLATE, CIDER HOUSE RULES) directs an all-star cast in this melancholy tale of bitterness and redemption, played out against the beautiful backdrop of rural Wyoming. Jean Gilkyson (Jennifer Lopez) is a single mom on the run from her abusive boyfriend, Gary (Damian Lewis). With nowhere else to go, she and her young daughter, Griff (Becca Gardner), travel to the ranch owned by Jean's father-in-law, Einar (Robert Redford). Jean and Einar have been estranged since the accidental death of Griffin, Einar's son, which he has always blamed on Jean. A crusty old cowboy, Einar lives a rustic existence-working his land, minding his own business, and getting into the occasional noble fistfight on his trips into town. He follows a strict routine that involves paying daily visits to his son's grave and caring for Mitch (Morgan Freeman, BATMAN BEGINS), a ranch hand who has been bedridden since being mauled by a bear a year ago. But when Jean shows up with a granddaughter he never even knew he had, Einar's world begins to change, and old wounds begin, reluctantly, to heal. Meanwhile, Jean gets a job working at the local diner, Gary comes looking for her, and her dalliance with the handsome police chief, Crane (Josh Lucas), just might blossom into something more. But none of them can move on with their lives until Mitch confronts the beast that came close to destroying him. The relationship between Mitch and Einar is the most fascinating aspect of the film: the two men have spent a lifetime together, and though they constantly nag one another, they obviously share a deep bond. Morgan Freeman plays a role that by now comes naturally to him-a beatific wise man who sees into the souls of others, and whose dreams provide a mystical backdrop to the action. The plucky Gardner turns in an unsentimental show-stealing performance as Griff, who coaxes her grandfather back to life and ultimately delivers a message of hope and an intimation of the meaning that can be found in life's random cruelties.

On a later trip to Albi, France, the Stopkas had the pleasure of being exposed to the world of Jacquard tapestries that they added quickly to the growing catalog. Since then, the company's product line has grown to include Egyptian, Medieval and other period pieces that are now among the current favorites of Design Toscano customers, along with an extensive collection of garden fountains, statuary, authentic canvas replicas of oil painting masterpieces, and other antique art reproductions.
