Instead, high-schooler Ferris Bueller (Mathew Broderick), his girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara), and his best bud Cameron (Alan Ruck) are off on the spontaneous romp through Chicago known as "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." "Planes, Trains And Automobiles": Steve Martin and John Candy star in John Hughes' classic tale of holiday travel gone awry. When his flight is rerouted to Wichita, he reluctantly partners with Del Griffith (Candy), an obnoxious yet loveable salesman. Together, they embark on a cross-country adventure that includes various modes of transportation, hilarious mishaps, and unforgettable rental car shenanigans. "Airplane!": The persons and events in this film are fictitious - fortunately! A masterpiece of off-the-wall comedy, "Airplane!" features Robert Hays as an ex-fighter pilot forced to take over the controls of an airliner when the flight crew succumbs to food poisoning; Julie Hagerty as his girlfriend/stewardess/co-pilot; and a cast of all-stars including Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Leslie Nielsen, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. and more. This pioneering insight into contemporary Thai folk culture delves beyond the traditional Thai icons to reveal the casual, everyday expressions of Thainess that so delight and puzzle. From floral truck bolts and taxi altars to buffalo cart furniture and drinks in a bag, the same exquisite care, craft and improvisation resounds through home and street, bar and wardrobe. Never colonised, Thai culture retains nuanced ancient meaning in the most mundane things. The days are colour coded, lucky numbers dictate prices, window grilles become guardian angels, tattoos entrance the wearer. Philip Cornwel-Smith scoured each region to show how indigenous wisdom both adapts to the present and customises imports, applying Roman architecture to shop-houses, morphing rock into festive farm music, turning the Japanese motor-rickshaw into the tuk-tuk. Colour-saturated illustrations help you navigate various social traits, whether white-faced hi-so matrons or Red Bulls, willing workers wearing coins in their ear. This is Thai culture as it has never been shown before. Born in England, Philip never expected to live in Thailand for almost two decades. He'd been in the capital only four days before becoming the founding editor of its first international-standard city listings magazine, 'Bangkok Metro', which he helmed until 2002. Throughout his time in Thailand, Philip has organised events, from film festivals and dance productions to themed parties and award ceremonies. He also acted as location consultant on several international projects, including the Grammy-nominated video-album '1GiantLeap' and the Discovery Channel city-guide 'Noodle Box: Bangkok', which he presented. Among the other publications Philip's edited or contributed to are 'Thailand: A Traveller's Companion', 'Eyewitness: Thailand Guidebook', 'Lonely Planet's World Food: Thailand' and the city's first mobile phone guide for Nokia. International magazines he's worked on include 'Wallpaper*', 'Colors', 'World Archit.

Philip Hoyt who was one of the Elite Investigators for a big conglomerate company was stranded in Clarion, Pennsylvania. And knew that after his visit home, he needed to make his way to the Fuel Depot in Florida. To investigate certain elements which not only spelled trouble, but also needed to be concerned for his own safety. From the first day, he wasn't welcome and had one problem after another with the manager, Leo Converse. However, his Florida stay was short lived, as he received a shocking call from Dr. Harmon urging Philip to come home immediately as Jenny was suffering from colorectal cancer and must be hospitalized. After discussing it with his boss, arrangements were made so Philip could fly back to New Jersey. Upon arrival he immediately went to The Kaiser Institute, where he found his wife in a coma and couldn't understand why. When Philip didn't get any answers from Dr. Harmon, he called his boss and a special team of doctors were dispatched to The Kaiser Institute of Health. Jenny who was laying in a pool of blood, needed to be stabilized. She received an immediate transfusion, then was moved to The Clinic. As the months went by, a lawsuit was filed in behalf of Jenny Hoyt. A Special Prosecutor was assigned by the conglomerate corporation who had dealings throughout the United States and connection to the Legal Communities. When a key witness for the prosecution was murdered, the tactics and delays instigated by the Defense Attorneys did not bode well. The day when the verdict was to be announced, Special Prosecutor Duncan Alvarez and his assistant met with an untimely death. But a new team of prosecutors were immediately dispatched from the home office to complete the final phase of the trial. Philip who settled in Florida and after many months of investigation, and moving from one Hotel/Motel to another had enough of constantly being followed by the drivers from the Fuel Depot. Liverpool is one of the most famous trading cities in the world. The view of its Pier Head with the Liver Building has become iconic: it has been called the second city of the British Empire and in the 1930s it became the model for Shanghai's Bund. The city suffered a slow decline in the latter half of the 20th century; industries closed or moved away, postwar architecture was mostly mediocre and the city's population fell as citizens sought employment further afield. Local people even began to shop elsewhere. As Manchester's star ascended in the late 1990s, the heart of Liverpool was in danger of becoming economically inconsequential. In 1999, the city council set out a challenge for international developers as part of an ambitious initiative to reverse this trend and encourage people to visit, live in and invest in Liverpool once again. The vision was for a reimagined and extended city centre, one that rethought the vast and under-used space between the principal shopping area and the city's historic docks. Forty-seven developers expressed an interest and, after a rigorous selection process, the job went to Grosvenor. The result is a 42-acre transformation, a mixed-use, retail-led development that embodies both contemporary urban design thinking and a deep sensitivity to ideas of place, identity and scale. Containing more than 30 individually designed buildings - including department stores, a bus station, apartments, hotels and a five acre park - this complex project was completed within an ambitious timetable to exceptionally high-quality thresholds. Grosvenor, and its 26 firms of architects, have created an entirely new, but uniquely Liverpudlian, urban district. This book tells the story of this Herculean project, its origins, its design and its delivery.

The novelist who's been showing us the future of fiction" (The Washington Post), David Mitchell delivers a kaleidoscopic, serpentine masterpiece that navigates between characters, eras, and realms of possibility to weave its astonishing spell. An eloquent conjurer of intricate, interconnected tales, a genre-bending daredevil, and a master prose stylist-David Mitchell has outdone himself. The Bone Clocks is a hypnotic Rubik's cube of a novel that begs to be taken apart and put back together long after the final piece is fit into place. Following a scalding row with her mother, fifteen year-old Holly Sykes slams the door on her old life. But Holly is no typical teenage runaway: a sensitive child once contacted by voices she knew only as "the radio people," Holly is a lightning rod for psychic phenomena. Now, as she wanders deeper into the English countryside, visions and coincidences reorder her reality until they assume the aura of a nightmare brought to life. For Holly has caught the attention of a cabal of dangerous mystics-and their enemies. But her lost weekend is merely the prelude to a shocking disappearance that leaves her family irrevocably scarred. This unsolved mystery will echo through every decade of Holly's life, affecting all the people Holly loves-even the ones who are not yet born. A Cambridge scholarship boy grooming himself for wealth and influence; a conflicted father who feels alive only while reporting from Occupied Iraq; a middle-aged writer mourning his exile from the bestseller list: all have a part to play in this surreal, invisible war on the margins of our world. From the medieval Swiss Alps to the nineteenth century Australian bush, from a hotel in Shanghai to a Manhattan townhouse in the near future, their stories come together in moments of everyday grace and extraordinary wonder.

bed bugs do not only live in beds. They can hitch a ride on passengers' belongings and infest planes, trains, subways, buses, taxis and ships. Any residences with large numbers of occupants, such as hotels, motels, hospitals and other health care facilities, apartments, rooming houses, college dormitories and camp cabins, are prone to infestations. Bed bugs can spread through an entire building as they move from room to room and floor to floor. The Barnes & Noble Review Bitch, Elizabeth Wurtzel's second book, was written over the course of a year in which she lived in four different apartments, three hotels, one seamy residential motel, and two houses. But the book is anything but transient. In luminescent prose, Wurtzel takes to task a double standard imposed on women: the cultural insistence on goodness and society's complete obsession with badness. No one understands the desire to be bad more than Elizabeth Wurtzel. Bitch is a brilliant tract on the history of manipulative female behavior. By looking at women who derive their power from their sexuality, Wurtzel offers a trenchant cultural critique of contemporary gender relations. Beginning with Delilah, the first woman to supposedly bring a great man down (latter-day Delilahs include Yoko Ono, Pam Smart, and Bess Myerson), Wurtzel finds many biblical counterparts to the men and women in today's headlines. In five brilliant essays, she links the lives of women as demanding and disparate as Amy Fisher, Hillary Clinton, Margaux Hemingway, and Nicole Brown Simpson. Wurtzel gives voice to those women whose lives have been misunderstood, who have been dismissed for their beauty, their madness, their youth. She finds in the story of Amy Fisher the tragic plight of all Lolitas, our thirst for their brief and intense flame. She connects Hemingway's tragic suicide to those of Sylvia Plath, Edie Sedgwick, and Marilyn Monroe, women whose beauty was ultimately an end in itself. Writing about the wife/mistress dichotomy, Wurtzel explains how some women are anointed wife material whileothersare relegated to the role of mistress. Both celebratory and cautionary, Bitch catalogues some of the most infamous women in history, defending their outsize desires, describing their exquisite loneliness, and championing their take-no-prisoners approach to life and to love.
