Explore - Argentina - Patagonia to the Pampas 4 of 4 - BBC Travel Documentary, recorded 12.02.2011 Simon Reeve leads a team of presenters on a journey through the spectacular landscapes of Argentina, from the vast ice fields of Patagonia to the wide-open plains of the pampas. In the south, a group of indigenous people are locked in a historic dispute with the area's biggest landowners, Italian clothing giants Benetton; in Buenos Aires, the children of the disappeared are seeking to find out the truth of what happened to their parents at the hands of Argentina's generals; and in the pampas we meet one of the last true gauchos, whose way of life is being destroyed by an argricultural revolution. On the way, we take in one of the greatest matches in world football, visit a penguin colony on the edge, and meet a bishop with a rather unorthodox interest in Evita. .

A town that has a relaxed vibe and is the gateway to Patagonia's main attractions. A great option to get around Patagonia, if you are an independent traveler, is to rent a car. In Patagonia it is the law to always drive with your lights on. It is also the law to wear your seatbelt, but many people ignore that one. But you should not because all of the roads in Argentina, pretty much, are two lane highways and passing is very common. Nothing like a mate when you are on the road. Travelers underestimate distances in Patagonia. It even happened to us today. Keep in mind while driving through Patagonia that many of the roads are unpaved. So your trip might take twice as long. Traveling in Patagonia has always been dangerous and the legend of Difunta Correa proves it. Difunta Correa was a young woman who was following her soldier husband with her baby in her arms. After spending days in the desert she died of thirst. When they found her body, her baby was still suckling on her lifeless breasts. Because the baby survived Argentines consider this a miracle. They come here and leave here the one thing she did not have at the end of her life: water. You can find shrines like this to Difunta Correa all throughout the desolate roadways of Patagonia. An alternative to taking planes in Argentina are the long distance luxury buses, and they are anything but second class. Some long distance buses in Argentina have movies that play the whole time, meal service that includes whiskey for dessert, air-conditioning and, as you can see, a comfortable chair. Time for a siesta. I am Ande Wanderer showing you Patagonia.

This is a terrible tutorial on how to use coca leaves in Northern Argentina. http://www.tourist2townie.com/ has enough trouble just pronouncing the names of the towns yet alone properly explaining one of the most traditional aspects of the culture in Northern Argentina... coca leaves. However, my heart was in the right place and luckily I had help from a beautiful Argentine and all the friendly people from the region. Shout out to all my peeps in Tilcara, Iruya, Humahuaca, Salta, Purmamarca, Cachi, and Cafayate.

http://www.sightseer.tv/buenosaires/buquebus South America is well known for it's Colourful Carnivals and one of the great places to experience this is in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. Carnival is widely celebrated throughout the country but the big parties can be found in Montevideo. Carnival is celebrated during January and February each year. One of the main highlights during the Carnival season is known as "llamadas". This takes place in the streets of the Palermo and Sur districts of Montevideo, and is usually held in early February. Participants come from all over the country to enjoy the sights and sounds of Candombé. This is a drum-based rhythm and dance which originated among the Afro-Uruguayan population. Groups taking part are made up of drummers and dancers, all dressed up in colourful clothes and face paint. The groups are judged in various categories including drumming and dancing abilities. The Carnival is loud and vibrant, with people enjoying the festive party atmosphere. The entertainment starts early evening going on until late. It is best to arrive early to get a good spot. You can stand or pay for a ticket in one of the seated areas that are spread along the route. Tickets can be purchased through Abitab branches in advance. Check out this link for dates and ticket pricing: http://carnavaldeluruguay.com/ If you happened to be in Buenos Aires, Argentina, during Carnival season, you can easily cross over the Rio de la Plata to Montevideo by Ferry. We would recommend staying at least a few days in Montevideo not only to enjoy Carnival but also the beautiful city itself. Check out the link at the top of the text to see our video on catching a Buquebus Ferry. At Sightseer.TV we have plenty of short videos on things to see and do Buenos Aires, which will help you plan your trip. So please come and visit our site.

Learn about Argentine wines and how they are competing with the best in the world. Location San Telmo Address Av. San Juan 600 (corner of Peru) Phone/Contact Info +54 4307 7969 Argentine wines have been making a buzz on the international market. Argentine vineyards in Mendoza, and other regions, have the ideal temperature, climate and soil to grow world class wines. The most famous vineyards are located beneath the Andes, they produce excellent red wine thanks to dry climate and rich soil. "Argentina has some of the best wines in the world because it has different types of soil. For example, Mendoza produces some of the best wines, also San Juan, this is why we have 'Syrah' of San Juan and the Cabernet and Malbec of Mandoza and the Pinot of the South. Only few years ago, most of Argentine produced wines were consumed locally." Recent years, with massive investment and the further opening of the Argentine economy, production standards have been increased to match the world's best wines. "Could you tell me a little about a good Malbec wine?" "OK, for example, we have the D.V. Catena, which is one of the best Malbecs from Mendoza - this is the Malbec. Malbec which is like a Cabernet in that it can be accompanied with beef." "Could you tell me the prices?" "The Malbec is 85 pesos, Syrah is 60 pesos, and the Chardonnay is about 60 pesos." I am Ande Wanderer, showing you Buenos Aires. Salute!
