A memoir of a young woman, the product of a strict upbringing by conservative Indian parents, who decides to go on a RAM-Singha, her Indian version of the rumspringa, and learns how to dance, swim, drive, travel, and play in order to be happy. Rupinder Gill was raised under the strict rules of her parents' Indian upbringing. While her friends were practicing their pliés, having slumber parties, and spending their summers at camp, Rupinder was cleaning, babysitting her siblings, and watching hours on end of American television. But at age 30, Rupinder realized how much she regretted her lack of childhood adventure. Stepping away from an orderly life of tradition, Rupinder set put to finally experience the things she missed out on. From learning to swim and taking dance lessons, to going to Disney World, her growing to-do list soon became the ultimate trip down non-memory lane. What began as a desire to experience all that had been denied to her leads to a discovery of what it means to be happy, and the important lessons that are learned when we are at play. Reminiscent of Mindy Kaling, this is a warm funny memoir of the daughter of Indian immigrants learning to break free and find her own path. when we are at play.

Ian was more than a little apprehensive when his turn came to kiss the Blarney Stone. Not only had they just met, but it seemed this stone wasn't at all fussy as to who it allowed to kiss it. Kissing the Blarney Stone is Ireland's third most popular tourist attraction, so as well as the moral implications there were the hygienic implications too. Yet kissing the Blarney Stone is reputed to bestow upon you the Irish gift of the gab, a talent Ian would need if he was to seduce the Sisters of Murphy's; assuming he ever finds them. This was just the first obstacle Ian had to cross during his two-month journey around the Emerald Isle. With just a backpack as a home, a guidebook in one hand, a bizarre travelogue in the other and very little money in his bank account, he leaves his home and sets off to this little country that has always been his neighbour, yet overlooked by him for many years as he pursued dreams to travel to far and exotic countries. But to Ian's surprise he was to find that he didn't need to travel thousands of miles across the world to discover something new and exciting. As he hitches, walks and takes the bus from Cork to Donegal via the West Coast, Ian discovers the wonderful spirit and friendliness of the Irish people. During this time he conceives a plan to be a real backpacker for a day by hiking from one town to another with the full weight of his backpack, but finds things aren't as straightforward as they might have seemed. Although travelling alone, he is rarely on his own as he meets up with various interesting and amusing characters along the way, until finally reaching the quiet and unspoilt shores of northern Donegal. Here he must cross a tumultuous ocean on a small boat in order to meet the King of Ireland, on the barren and windswept isle of Tory. Also included in this new, fully illustrated e-book edition is a second part including 18 new articles from the author's return trips to Ireland, along with nearly 100 beautiful colour pho

An Indian Summer of Steam' is the second volume of David Maidment's 'railway' autobiography, following his first book 'A Privileged Journey', published in xxxx. David was a railway enthusiast who made the hobby his career. After management training on the Western Region, between 1961 and 1964, he became a stationmaster in a Welsh Valley, an Area Manager on the Cardiff - Swansea main line and radiating valleys, the South Wales Train Planning Officer, the Head of Productivity Services for the Western Region and subsequently the British Railways Board, before four years from 1982 as Chief Operating Manager of the London Midland Region, the BRB's first Quality & Reliability Manager in 1986, and finally British Rail's Head of Safety Policy after the Clapham Junction train accident, until privatisation. rn This experience led to a number of years as an international railway safety consultant, and, as a result of an encounter on an Indian railway station during a business trip abroad, to found the 'Railway Children' charity to support street children living on the rail and bus stations of India, East Africa and the UK, described in 2012 by an officer of the United Nations Human Rights Commission as the largest charity in the world working exclusively for street children. All this is the background to the descriptions the author gives of the last years of steam and his many journeys and experiences during his training in South Wales and the South West, his travels all over BR from 1962 until the end of steam in 1968, his search for steam in France, East and West Germany and China and the steam specials in Britain, France, Germany and China after the demise of regular steam working. The book includes over 100 black and white and 100 colour photos, most taken by the author during his travels, and nearly forty pages of logs of locomotive performance in Britain and the continent. rn All royalties from the book are being donated by the author to the charity he founded, a brief de

Complexity sets the tone on "The Raid," the debut CD of the Stephan Braun Trio. Latin rhythms, 70s grooves and urban cool jazz encase smooth vocals and are topped off by the band leader's cello on a techno trip. Stephan Braun defines a broad style terrain with nine of his own compositions. The force behind the wealth of his inventive playing techniques easily puts the cello on par with jazz's more traditional lead instruments. All three members of the young Stephan Braun Trio can boast of having completed their studies at a German college of music. However, this is just one aspect of their respective professional histories. Drummer Bodek Janke, born in 1979 in Warsaw, is strongly influenced by his Polish-Kazakh-Russian roots. His learning to play the Indian tabla percussion instrument, work with internationally acclaimed jazz greats and current residence in New York are all factors that contribute to this picture of a shimmering, versatile musical personage. Also a Poland native is pianist Matth us Winnitzki whose heart belongs to Afro-Cuban music. With Hamburg as his adoptive home, it is no wonder that this founder of several bands and owner of his own label (brennt rekords) can mostly be heard in Latin Jazz ensembles. In the middle of his classical studies, Stephan Braun ultimately decided to pursue training in jazz whereby his concentration on groove techniques on the cello earned him not only his degree, but also several distinctions setting him apart from the rest. He has been awarded at national and international competitions and has up till now made a name for himself with the group deep strings (winner of the Berlin "Jazz and Blues Award" 2004) and by playing with the NDR Big Band, Annamateur and the Kristjan Randalu Quartet. "The Raid" is a declaration of sophisticated jazz composition far removed from the ingrained "themeimprovisation- theme" formula. Stephan Braun's creations are the products of his love for and exhaustive knowledge of composers from the expressionist and classical modern eras: Igor St

Free Lightroom 1.1 update available. Simply visit peachpit.com/register to gain instant access. Scott Kelby, author of the world's #1 bestselling Photoshop book, The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers, brings his same award-winning, step-by-step, plain-English style, look and feel to The Lightroom Book for Digital Photographers. This groundbreaking new book doesn't just show you "which sliders do what" (every Lightroom book does that). This book takes you beyond that to reveal the secrets of the new digital photography workflow, and he does it using three simple, yet brilliant techniques that make this just an incredible learning tool: #1) Throughout the book Scott shares his own personal settings and studio tested techniques he's developed using Lightroom for his own photography workflow since well before Adobe released even the first Beta version. He knows what really works, what doesn't, and he tells you flat out which tools to use, which to avoid, and why. #2) The entire book is laid out in a real workflow order with everything step-by-step, so you can jump right in using Lightroom like a pro from the very start and sidestep a lot of productivity killing road blocks and time-wasting frustrations that might have tripped you up along the way. #3) But what really sets this book apart from the rest, are the last two bonus chapters. This is where Scott visually answers his #1 "most-asked" Lightroom question, which is: "Exactly what order am I supposed to do things in, and where does Photoshop fit in?" Scott teaches this in a manner we've never seen before in any book, by really showing every step of the entire process, from the initial shoot to the final prints. Both chapters start with an on-location photo shoot, including full details on the equipment, camera settings, and even the lighting techniques. You'll see it all as he takes the photos from each shoot (with you following right along using the very same images) all the way through the entire

Antony Sher's enthralling account of the struggle - and the triumph - of bringing Primo Levi's Auschwitz memoir to the stage The National Theatre's current production of Primo, starring Antony Sher, who also made the adaptation, sold right out even before tickets went on sale to the general public. The one-man show, directed by Richard 'One Foot in the Grave' Wilson, was greeted with universal critical acclaim when it opened on 30 September 2004. Antony Sher's incarnation of a middle-aged Primo Levi recounting his years in Auschwitz was hailed as one of the most remarkable performances of recent years. In Primo, Sher tells of how he first came across Primo Levi's book, If This is a Man, of how he conceived the notion of adapting it for the stage, and of the long-drawn-out negotiations with Primo Levi's widow and children, who, like Levi himself, were adamantly opposed to any attempt to recreate Auschwitz or impersonate its inmates. He tells of research trips, accompanied by director Richard Wilson, to Auschwitz and to Turin, where Levi was born and lived all his life apart from his enforced spell in the camps. And he tells of the struggle to stage his adaptation and remain true both to the book and to Levi's precepts.

When Eleanor Pendleton met Louis M. Ream in 1911, it was love at first sight. She was a Broadway actress known for her beauty and dancing ability in musical comedy productions during the early twentieth century. Louis was tall, dark, and handsome and, as she soon discovered, the youngest son and presumptive heir of Norman B. Ream, one of America's wealthiest men. The problem for Eleanor, as she learned after eloping with Louis, was her father-in-law's deep-seated aversion to the theatre; he regarded all actresses as disreputable. After an overnight trip to seek his father's forgiveness and understanding, Louis disappeared. A blend of history and melodrama, H. Thomas Howell's Eleanor's Pursuit offers the biographical legacy of Eleanor Pendleton. It looks beneath the sensational newspaper coverage of 1911 to explore the confrontation between father and son and Eleanor's anxious vigil while awaiting the return of her husband. When Ream's lawyer arrives at her apartment instead of Louis and informs her the marriage is over, Eleanor collapses in disbelief. The lawyers take center stage, displacing the lovers. Chronicling one of the biggest celebrity newspaper stories of its day, Eleanor's Pursuit follows the secret deal-making sessions, the stage-managed travesty of justice, and the ultimate courtroom battle. These events come to life as the witnesses and lawyers reveal the private details in their own words. Howell also tells how the public reacted to the story as it unfolded. With surprises at every turn, this biography explains the exceptional final stage of Eleanor's pursuit.

The Big Trip Up Yonder: Kurt Vonnegut Jr. was known for blending satire, black comedy, and science fiction, and that is exactly what he does in this story. It was written in 1954 and first appeared in Galaxy Science Fiction. In the chronology of his works, it came between Player Piano and The Sirens of Titan. The story takes place in a future in which the population has grown so huge, due to an anti-aging product, that generations are forced to live together in crowded apartments. The family in this story is ruled by a dictatorial grandfather, the owner of the apartment and oldest of the clan.2BR02B: Kurt Vonnegut Jr. was known for blending satire, black comedy, and science fiction, and that is exactly what he does in this little gem of of a story from 1962. In the chronology of his works, it came between Mother Night and Cat's Cradle. The title is pronounced "2 B R naught 2 B" and references the famous phrase, "To be or not to be" in Shakespeare's Hamlet. Legend has it that long, long ago, a great knight fell in love with a fair maiden… A Legend Arises Emma knew her entire life that she'd eventually marry Ailig and be the lady in his castle. But she had dreams of freedom which weren't befitting to a lady of her standing. Still she yearned for Ailig and the unknown of his arms. As Ailig's wife she learns her true freedom is in his arms and bondage is the emptiness she feels when they're parted. Instead of wishing for freedom, she fears for her love's safety while he does his king's bidding. Though she endeavours to hide her apprehension, Ailig knows of his bride's anxieties yet duty to king and country compels him. Before answering each call to service, he promises to safely return. But there are some perils that even a knight can't overcome… A Legend Accomplished Writer, Emily Harteger has been at loose ends her entire life, never quite fitting in anywhere she's gone. She finds her place in the past amongst the knights and maidens she creates on paper. When a story idea comes to her in a dream, she's compelled to travel to England on a trip she can neither afford nor justify. She's drawn to the shores of Northern England where vivid pictures fill her head and she pens a lurid tale of Sir Alexander and his love Emagarde. When she meets Alec Woods, the very embodiment of the man she's visualised in her dreams, she's drawn under his spell. Her visions of the knight and his love grow stronger and she wonders if the attraction she feels for Alec is real or the product of her wishful dreaming. Then they find a bottle containing a necklace and note identical to one she's written about in her book… Is this fantasy or something else entirely? Publisher's Note: This story was released as part of the Legend Anthology by Totally Bound Publishing.

"Now, I would like for you to move forward to this last week or so in your life. First, there was the little girl, Maddie, who won that incredibly lucky spending trip in the toy store. Then there was Claire, her mother, who you managed to help get into a very nice apartment at a price she can afford.
