North Indian food is characterized by rich curries and breads. While in New Delhi, I ate at Bhape Da Hotel, a restaurant that was one of my favorites. More about New Delhi in my guide: http://migrationology.com/delhi-travel-guide-ebook/ Karims Restaurant may be one of the most famous dining establishments in all of Delhi, and it was delicious, but I didn't think it was as good as Bhape Da Hotel. I originally found this restaurant by searching this website http://www.zomato.com/ncr/bhape-da-hotel-connaught-place-delhi, and since I was heading to Connaught Place, I decided I needed to stop in this legendary eater to sample some North Indian food in New Delhi, India. Bhape Da Hotel is just about everything I look for in a restaurant, there's a crowd of men standing outside, it's small and homey, it's hot and stuffy, and there's little conversation from diners, all the talk and shouting only comes from order food and from the staff - diners are silent enjoying the moment. Again, I had little idea of what North Indian food to order when I arrived, so I asked the owner, what dishes he recommend and without hesitation he mentioned the saag mutton (or mutton sag, saag gosht). You may be familiar with the famous Indian food of palak paneer which is paneer cheese in a spinach puree curry blend. Saag is another name for palak, or spinach, and this dish was similar except instead of paneer cheese it was replaced with a huge chunk of mutton - that's what I'm talking about! I also ordered the chicken curry, and a stack of freshly cooked tandoori rotis which are very similar to thinner and slightly crispy naan breads. The food is all prepared already, so when you order they just dish the luscious curries out the pots and deliver them to your table with haste. The aroma was almost too much to handle, the food was calling my name. Both the dishes arrived to my table and I was ready to dig in. At Bhape Da Hotel, I started things off by breaking bread and dipping it into the thick saag mutton gravy; It was heavenly. Then I took to the bone, and the mutton literally just slid off the bone with ease, the meat dripping with the saag sauce and plenty of oil. Then I sampled the chicken curry, which was equally rich and superbly flavored with an array of spices. Both of the North Indian food curries I enjoyed at Bhape Da Hotel restaurant in New Delhi, India, were outstanding and I would gladly take another pilgrimage there just to eat them. They were both extremely rich and oily, but they sure are worth it every now and then. See you later. And you get like warm tingly feelings because you love your mom so much but fuck I really don't want to empty the dishwasher so you put it off for later because you're like, I have around 2 and half hours until she gets home so I can watch some TRL and eat a snack and I'll do it later. So you go into the freezer and hey oh my god bagel bites I thought Devin ate them all, but they were like sort of squished in the back so you were all excited that you found them so you make them and go sit on the floor in front of the tv and eat them and watch N*SYNC and oh my god you have the biggest crush on them because they're so hot and sing and dance and topics of their songs include love and they say things like, giiiiirrrrl, and that really gets you going but that one with the curly frosted hair is your favorite because he is the hottest one and sings all the main parts in the songs so you like him the most. His name is Justin Timberlake and you wish really bad he would just be your boyfriend already, he would totally like you so much and you could go to Twelve Corners and get pizza together at Great Northern Pizza Kitchen and get that one that's got like potato and cheese and sour cream and bacon on it that's your favorite, surly it would be his too, and then since he's older he could drive you to band practice in his car so this would work out great. Then all of a sudden its like 5:15 HOW DID THE TIME GO BY THAT FAST?? and you hear your mom coming in the door and you're so excited to see her because you love your mommy so much but FUUUUCKKK I DIDNT EMPTY THE DISHWASHER so you go over there and start unloading them and she's all like, ugh Jenna I asked you to do one thing, and you're all like I'm sorry mom I'm doing it nowww!! ahhhhh I don't like getting in trouble and you feel all weiiiirrrdd!! noooooo. But then she's like it's okay, I'm going to make tacos for dinner how does that sound and you're like yayyy I love tacos and you help her like cut up the vegetables and stuff and she cooks the meat and you have a nice time talking about your days together and then you sit down for dinner and you pour yourself a glass of orange juice even though its dinner time because it's just so delicious and you cannot get enough of it. Then you watch some tv together and laugh and then she has to go and ruin it and be like, did you do your homework, and you're like MOM ILL DO IT LATER I DONT WANT TO WE ARE HAVING SUCH AN ENJOYABLE TIME TOGETHER I hate school and my teachers aren't fair with all this work what the fuck I'm learning why do I have to learn so much my brain is tired and Full House is on come on. So then she trusts you and is like okay do it when you want, but then later you're really sorry you didn't do it earlier because it takes longer than you anticipated and is really boring and miserable so you sort of half ass it. Then you get ready for bed and brush your teeth and stuff and are like, goodnight mom love you, and she's like I love you too and you get into your bed that has sheets with fish on them because you like their fun colors and you get all snuggly with your stuffed animals and zip yourself up into that tent thing that you wish you had but don't. We went to Pakistan to invesitage why suicide bombings, IED use, and the Taliban are all growing at alarming rates. In a recent trip to Pakistan to report on the recent spike in the region's violence and bloodshed, Suroosh Alvi heard over and over the same sentiment from people on the ground: America's war on terror is falling flat on its face. The military conflict in neighboring Afghanistan, repeatedly cited by locals, sends a constant flood of guns, refugees, militants, and heroin flowing into Pakistan. Heroin is now actually cheaper than hashish in cities like Lahore, and the Kalashnikov culture, the foundation of which was laid 30 years ago when the CIA financed the mujahideen, is all-consuming. According to the Pakistanis he spoke to, it's all taken a devastating toll on the country and is creating the next generation of militants. Teacher Swimming To Work in India SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/Oc61Hj A DEDICATED teacher commutes to his government job at a school - by wading across a neck-deep river swirling with debris. Abdul Malik's barmy commute first began 20 years ago when he started his job at a village school in Malappuram district Kerala, India. In a bid to shave three hours off his round trip journey by bus each day, he took to swimming across the raging local contributory of the Chaliyar river. Once on the other bank he swiftly changes into a dry set of clothes and treks for 10 minutes uphill until he reaches the school. Abdul now hopes to use his unique commute to teach his pupils environmental lessons - which he hopes will help future generations protect the river from pollution. Tourists on India's Andaman Islands are taken by the busload to watch the Jarawa tribe go about their daily lives. The Jarawa are treated like animals in a safari park, with large signs urging visitors not to feed them or give them clothing. Earlier this year, a crew from VICE Germany went to the Andaman Islands and brought back footage for this fascinating, if a bit depressing, documentary.
