Preview of 74-minute documentary by Lin and Larry Pardey. YouTube Rental: $2.99 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byhAS1O6qt8&list=PL5713DE2E60C714A9&index=6 Video Download (wmv, mov): $12.99 Included in Pardey 4-Pack Download: $39.99 CHNL DVD: $22.95 + S&H www.thesailingchannel.tv/pardey/chnl/ Skimming before caressing tradewinds, savoring tropical landfalls, evading stormy seas—such is the image of the cruising life under sail. It is all this, but it can be so much more. Join Lin and Larry Pardey at their New Zealand home base as they recount some of their most memorable adventures during more than 30 years of cruising. Sail with them across the Indian Ocean on board 29-foot, 9-inch Taleisin. Learn how they planned and executed a sevenmonth "Champagne Safari on a Beer Budget," outfi tting a 4X4 to reach remote corners of southern Africa. Share their memories of campfi re evenings with Kalahari Bushmen, life in a sculptors' commune in Zimbabwe's northern reaches, and days of animal-watching at waterholes far from game reserves. Then voyage onward with them to Brazil, and see how two 14-year-old passengers led them into a unique, eight-month-long island encounter with nine Brazilian families who dreamed of their own off shore adventures. Finally, sail north through the Atlantic to Ireland's music-filled shores and a summer of history, classic sailing, and friendship. Along the way, you'll learn some of the truisms that could help you get out adventuring sooner and more enjoyably—whether on the water or on land. You'll also come to know more about this longtime cruising couple who have been dubbed "the enablers" because of their enthusiasm and willingness to share their secrets for exploring the far corners of the world on a limited budget. "After voyaging tens of thousands of engineless miles under sail, penning more useful marine books than Hiscock and Moitessier combined, and receiving more awards for their pursuits than Tom Hanks has for his, Lin and Larry Pardey are entitled to their well-earned nautical opinions." —HERB McCORMACK, EDITOR-AT-LARGE, CRUISING WORLD

Recife is the 4th-largest Metropolitan area in Brazil with 3,768,902 inhabitants, the largest metropolitan area of the North/Northeast Regions, the 4th-largest metropolitan influence area in Brazil, and the capital of the state of Pernambuco. The population of the city proper was 1,561,659 in 2009. Recife is located where the Beberibe River meets the Capibaribe River to flow into the Atlantic Ocean. It is a major port on the Atlantic Ocean. The name Recife means "reef" in Portuguese, in allusion to the coral reefs that are present by the city's shores. The many rivers, small islands and over 50 bridges found in Recife city center characterize its geography and gives it the moniker of the "Brazilian Venice." The Metropolitan Region of Recife is the main industrial zone of the State of Pernambuco; most relevant products are those derived from cane (sugar and ethanol), electronics, food, and others; thanks to the fiscal incentives of government, many industrial enterprises were started in the 1970s and 1980s. Recife has a tradition of being the most important commercial center of the North/Northeastern region of Brazil with more than 52,500 business enterprises in Recife itself plus 32,500 in the Metro Area which will total more than 85,000. A combination of a large supply of labor and significant private investments turned Recife into Brazil's second largest medical center, (second only to São Paulo); modern hospitals with state-of-the-art equipment receive patients from several neighboring States. Like all other cities in the Northeast, Recife is developing its tourist sector. The beach of Porto de Galinhas, 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of the city, has been repeatedly awarded the title of best beach in Brazil and has drawn many tourists. Recife's infrastructure is among the most developed in Brazil for travellers and business people, though there is wide room for improvement. The city is also a renowned educational center, and home to the Federal University of Pernambuco, the largest university in Pernambuco. Several Brazilian historical figures, such as the poet and abolitionist Castro Alves, moved to Recife to attain their education. Recife is served by the Gilberto Freyre/Guararapes International Airport which connects Recife to several Brazilian destinations as well as major international cities in Europe, the United States and South America. Also, together with Natal these are the only Brazilian cities with direct flights to the paradise islands of Fernando de Noronha, World Heritage Site since 2001. ( source Wikipedia )

When it comes to street food, Rio de Janeiro has plenty to offer. Here in Rio De Janiero it is impossible to escape the delicious sights and smells of the street foods available here. We are here at a tapioca store in Impanema. Tapioca is one of the more popular street foods you will come across here in Rio. They are kind of like a crepe with a multitude of fillings. There is meat, there is sweet and cheese and that is basically your tapioca pancake. Well though not Brazilian in origin, many vendors also sell churros. It is a sweet dessert not unlike a donut, fried, battered. But the secret is in the hollow middle they will fill with chocolate sauce or dulce de leche, which is caramel. Popcorn is one of the most popular street foods in Rio. You can get either the sweet, dulce, or the salty, sargado, or possibly the best thing, a mistuda (Unclear), getting both mixed together. In the sargado, you might find a few nasty suprises in the form of bacon chunks, so just look out. Another snack you are likely to see everywhere is called corn on the cob. Keep an eye out for the shiny steel carts and get it served right in the husk of the corn slathered in butter. On the beaches you are likely to find many people with homemade barbecues and the delicious (Unclear) which is grilled cheese. So there is a selection of the street foods available here in Rio De Janiero. For the most part delicious, safe and very cheap. But just two words of warning, if the guy selling you the imparted does not look quite right best avoid it. There are some terrible horror stories about what it can do to you. This has been Doug Gray showing you Rio De Janiero.

Algeria Travel Video Guide After a decade of conflict the situation improved slightly, and some access to the southern Sahara region has been possible in the last couple of years. Algeria is one of the most fascinating countries in North Africa.Algeria Travel Video Guide in the dramatic Unesco-listed Tassili N'Ajjer and Hoggar regions, near the town of Tamanrasset, tribal culture is very much alive, and the day-to-day hassle common to many Arab countries is conspicuously absent. Algiers contains a vivid mix of tradition and modernism, its colonial past maintaining a presence. Timimoun embodies the storybook oasis town of the Sahara, and the welcoming town of In Salah is split in two by a creeping sand dune. Take a tour of Monument of the Martyrs in Algeria -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. The Monument of Martyrs is a towering emblem of Algiers' citizens who fought and died for freedom from French rule. Its opening exhibition in 1982 observed the 20th anniversary of Algiers' independence. Constructed as three standing palm leaves, the concrete edifice shelters the city's eternal flame. Each palm leaf's base is guarded by a statue of an Algerian soldier to express the city's great struggle. The monument stands over three hundred feet tall, making it one of Algiers' most notable landmarks. A reminder of Algiers' victory, the soaring structure can be seen from anywhere in the city.
