Marco Polo New Zealand: the Travel Guide with Insider Tips Experience all the attractions of New Zealand with this up-to date and authoritative guide, complete with 'Best Of' recommendations. You'll find lonely beaches and breathtakingly beautiful national parks, cosy hotels and authentic restaurants, the top places for adventure seekers and selected hiking trails. There are also tips for shopping and getting by on a low budget, as well as ideas for those travelling with children and for active pursuits and a summary of the country's main festivals and events. Further sections include: Travel Tips, Food & Drink, Links, Blogs, Apps & more and index; useful too is the 'Perfect Route' section and the handy pull-out map supplied in addition to the Road Atlas inside. 'Kiwi' is the word that perhaps best sums up New Zealand. Shy kiwi birds hide in the undergrowth of the rainforest, vitamin-rich kiwi fruits grow just about everywhere and the Kiwis - as the New Zealanders call themselves - offer a friendly welcome to visitors from all over the world. With MARCO POLO New Zealand you will discover a unique natural paradise at the other side of the world. The practical, pocket-sized guide leads you through an amazingly varied landscape: paradise beaches with Mediterranean climate, frozen glaciers in the high mountains, deep fjords, tangled forests with gigantic trees and thermal areas where the ground boils over. On top of that is the exotic appeal of the Polynesian culture of the original inhabitants, the Maori. The 'Perfect Route' covers both islands in all their variety, from Cape Reinga in the north of North Island, past the lively cities of Auckland and Wellington and across to the South Island, the scenically most beautiful of the two whose landscape provided the setting for the 'Lord of the Rings'. The 'Best Of' pages highlight some unique things about New Zealand (e.g. festive supper with the Maori and the Art Deco town of Napier), recommend places to go for free, and have tips for things to do if it rains and where you can relax and unwind. The Insider Tips reveal where New Zealanders still mainly keep themselves to themselves where you have to pass one test of courage or another in order to have your adventures in the underworld. The Excursions & Tours chapter takes you off the beaten track: along the coast roads you can explore the wild east of the North Island or cycle along disused railway tracks through the highlands of Central Otago. Finally the Dos & Don'ts tell you not to drink from rivers and why you can't stay the night in hotels. MARCO POLO New Zealand provides comprehensive coverage of all parts of the country. To help you find your way around there are the 'Where to Start' panels for the main cities, a detailed Road Atlas, the useful maps of Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin and Wellington in the cover, and a separate pull-out map.

Peter Mayle, francophile phenomenon and author of "A Year in Provence," brings another delightful (and delicious) account of the good life, this time exploring the gustatory pleasures to be found throughout France. The French celebrate food and drink more than any other people, and Mayle shows us just how contagious their enthusiasm can be. We visit the Foire aux Escargots. We attend a truly French marathon, where the beverage of choice is Chteau Lafite-Rothschild rather than Gatorade. We search out the most pungent cheese in France, and eavesdrop on a heated debate on the perfect way to prepare an omelet. We even attend a Catholic mass in the village of Richerenches, a sacred event at which thanks are given for the aromatic, mysterious, and breathtakingly expensive black truffle. With Mayle as our inimitably charming guide, we come away with a satisfied smile (if a little hungry) and the compelling desire to book a flight to France at once.

This new book of mine is all about fun, escapist recipes. It's an adventurous cookbook that embraces the big hitters from the incredible countries I"ve visited recently, as well as completely new things I"ve made up by taking cues from the influences around me. I"ve taken some of the most famous and exciting dishes from these beautiful places and tweaked them so you can recreate the paellas of Spain, the tagines of Morocco and the risottos of Italy easily, and authentically, in your own kitchen. Every now and then, being brave, escaping the daily routine and filling up on other cultures is a great thing to do. Just get out there and discover the fantastic flavors, people, and places that exist just a flight away. So, if you"ve been talking about going somewhere in particular but haven"t gotten around to booking your ticket, I urge you to go for it. You'll come back feeling optimistic about life, with a head full of beautiful memories-not to mention ideas for incredible dishes. In the meantime, let this book introduce you to some of the fantastic new recipes and flavors I"ve discovered, and maybe even reintroduce you to recipes you"ve loved and enjoyed on your own holidays, but just never knew how to make.

The Mississippi Delta is a complicated and fascinating place. Part travel guide, part cookbook, and part photo essay, Eat Drink Delta by veteran food journalist Susan Puckett (with photographs by Delta resident Langdon Clay) reveals a region shaped by slavery, civil rights, amazing wealth, abject deprivation, the Civil War, a flood of biblical proportions, and-above all-an overarching urge to get down and party with a full table and an open bar. There's more to Delta dining than southern standards. Puckett uncovers the stories behind convenience stores where dill pickles marinate in Kool-Aid and diners where tabouli appears on plates with fried chicken. She celebrates the region's hot tamale makers who follow the time-honored techniques that inspired many a blues lyric. And she introduces us to a new crop of Delta chefs who brine chicken in sweet tea and top stone-ground Mississippi grits with local pond-raised prawns and tomato confit. The guide also provides a taste of events such as Belzoni's World Catfish Festival and Tunica's Wild Game Cook-Off and offers dozens of tested recipes, including the Memphis barbecue pizza beloved by Elvis and a lemon ice-box pie inspired by Tennessee Williams. To William Faulkner's suggestion, To understand the world, you must first understand a place like Mississippi, Susan Puckett adds this advice: Go to the Delta with an open mind and an empty stomach. Make your way southward in a journey measured in meals, not miles.
