What you need to know for riding local train in Buenos Aires. The cheapest, easiest way to get around in Buenos Aires is the subway, or subte in Spanish. The underground system is run by Metrovias. It is the oldest subway in all the Spanish speaking world. You might even see an old wooden car running. The subway here has five lines: A, B, C, D, and E. Line D is a great line for visitors. The subway starts here in Plaza de Mayo, and carries you to most destinations, one including Teatro Colon, here. So now that you have reached your subway stop, go into the counter, purchase your ticket. In return, receive a card like this with a magnetic strip. Make sure you are on the right side of the platform, and there comes our train. If you take a look around you, you will notice that the entire train is made of wood. It is like you have gone into a time machine. Well, so here we are. That was pretty easy, and we have avoided all the traffic up above. If you choose to use taxis, the prices are relatively cheaper when compared to other cities. I am Kristina Renee, showing you Buenos Aires.

Interail locomotive 42206 is seen at the Dynon Freight yards (Melbourne) preparing to attach to container wagons delivered earlier in the morning by a QR National (QRN) freight train. Once attached the locomotive shunts the train forward to clear a point (turnout) and then backs the train into a siding so the shipping containers can be unloaded. Interail is part of QR National railways. The 422 Class were delivered to their original owners, the New South Wales Government Railways during 1969 & 1970 and. The locomotive has an EMD 16-645E engine and features a drivers cab on both ends of the locomotive, a feature that became common on NSW locomotives for the next 30 years. . A QRNational (QRN) Perth to Melbourne freight train races through a level crossing at 4:30am as the cold pre-dawn air makes me wonder why I get up so early to film trains. In the dark I thought I saw something unusual about the train's locomotives however it wasn't until I got home I discovered the three QRN 6000 class locomotives had been joined by a CFCLA VL class locomotive! Further investigations have since revealed four VL's have been leased by QRN to help ease a locomotive shortage. Amazingly the flashing lights, bells, and boom gates are still not enough to prevent some drivers from foolishly proceeding through level crossings when trains approach, however thankfully on this occasion the train encounters no such problems. Whether you're a pedestrian or in a vehicle always remember to obey the warning signs at level crossings, being hit by a train because you'd didn't take a few seconds to look in both directions is a dumb way to die. . There's a few locations on the Geelong line where, if things go as planned, you'll see two V/line passenger trains cross. Although the action was a bit further away than I'd have liked I still managed to capture this V/line Vlocity as it crossed a N class locomotive hauled passenger train. . Phillip Island Chocolate Factory is the sweetest tourist attraction on the Island. See our chocolates being hand made. We use only Belgian chocolate, the best available. It's creamy texture and slight hint of vanillin is exceptionally mouth watering. Only the finest ingredients are used in creating our chocolates. Also see frozen bananas dipped in chocolate while you wait.

Pacific National "NR Class" diesel locomotives NR114 & NR107 are seen running light engine at Dynon (Melbourne) just after sunrise. We first see the two locomotives running together, then NR114 makes a solo pass by the camera. The NR class are an Australian mainline diesel electric locomotive that use GE Transportation Systems engines and traction equipment developing just over 4000 horsepower. They were introduced by National Rail in 1996 and are now owned by Pacific National. . PoathTV - Australian Trains, Railways & Railroads

Walk through Cafe Tortoni, the historic and perhaps the most famous cafe of Buenos Aires. Website www.cafetortoni.com.ar Address Avenida de Mayo 825 Phone/Contact Info +54 11 4342 4328 tortoni@cafetortoni.com.ar Cafe Tortoni, it is probably the most favorite cafe in Buenos Aires. Located just steps away from Plaza Le Mancia, it is popular with tourists and coperanians. Cafe Tortoni was found in 1858 and named after a famous cafe in France, if you look carefully. Many of the tables in the cafe have plucks that are dedicated to famous writers that actually wrote on those tables. "I am Roberto Fanego, Manager of Cafe Tortoni. I have been here half a century. I lived the history of this Cafe. The works of art that part of the Cafe's history were all gifts from the writers and painters". Cafe Tortoni was popular with intellectuals, politician and tango singers. This is Nobel price winning author Balkin Borges, then we have famous tango singer, Carlos Gardel and an Argentinian poet called Alfonsina Storni. "We have a photo of Borges speaking here and you can see me there listening. I still had hair back then. I enjoyed the company of the poets, musicians, and writers. I got to hear them speak". Right now, I am in what used to be the barber shop of the cafe. Now, it is a museum. The walls are covered with art work and photographs relating the history of the cafe. At night Cafe Tortoni holds jazz and tango shows at the small theater at the back of the cafe. In the past famous tango Ochesteras played in that balcony. Here we have some hot chocolate made with a bar of real chocolate and the churros, which are an Argentinian delicacy, it is a pastry. If the hot chocolate was not enough for you, do not forget the chocolate cake. Here is an interesting fact, the first legislative session held in Buenos Aires, was here in Cafe Tortoni in nineteen ninety seven. So, here we have a traditional Argentinian plate, it is called picada and it is full of olives, cheese, salami, ham, pickles and the cherries and it comes with cider or beer. Right now I have a cider, which is a great other option instead of beer. You could find this in any Argentinian restaurant but it is usually not so beautifully designed. I am Veronica de Aboitiz showing you Buenos Aires.

Together with Claudio, a real Rosariño, I show you things to do in Rosario (Santa Fe, Argentina). Claudio, who was also my spanish teacher tells a bit about the history and the culture of the city - you'll see it's not only about beautiful women! Moreover it is also the first episode in spanish (subtitles are provided for this part) as I improved my spanish in Rosario supported by the school of Claudio & Stephanie. ---What is so special about Rosario? --- Rosario is part of the Santa Fé region and surprised me a lot, I guess fell in love with this little gem on the Paraña River. "In Rosario you'll find the most attractive women in Argentina!" This is what you come to hear from argentineans if you speak about your intention to visit this city. During my stay I realized that the city itself is a real beauty queen ;) --- Why have I been there? --- I came to take a break from travelling, to improve my spanish skills and to relax. This place was perfect for that and really enjoyed living in Rosario for more than 1,5 months. This student city is a great place to be as it offers all amenities of a big city but isn't that hustling and bustling like for example B.A.: if you stay in the 'microcentro' you can walk or bike everywhere, you have great parks to relax and on the weekends you can party hard in one of the numerous clubs. And of course: you can meet beautiful people :) --- Topics covered by this video --- Is it important to learn spanish if you're traveling to Argentina? Which famous revolutionist was born in Rosario? Why is Rosario so popular by young people? What about things to do in Rosario? - All these questions will be answered in this episode! I hope you enjoy this "Travel Video Blog" episode from Argentina (which comes with some Bloopers at the end) and keep following for the next Travel Video. Ah...and please feel free to share, embedd & tell your friends ;) === LINKS === Photo Essay on my Blog: http://www.back-packer.org/rosario-an-argentinean-beauty-in-33-pictures/ Language School & Tour: Spanish in Rosario (www.spanishinrosario.com) Music: Aries 4Rce BeatZ (http://www.youtube.com/aries4rce) #HolaGringo is supported by: Hostelbookers: http://www.hostelbookers.com Traveldudes: http://www.traveldudes.org Follow me: http://www.back-packer.org http://www.twitter.com/BackPackerSteve http://www.facebook.com/BackPackerBlog

Explore - Argentina - Patagonia to the Pampas 2 of 4 - BBC Travel Documentary, recorded 12.02.2011 Simon Reeve leads a team of presenters on a journey through the spectacular landscapes of Argentina, from the vast ice fields of Patagonia to the wide-open plains of the pampas. In the south, a group of indigenous people are locked in a historic dispute with the area's biggest landowners, Italian clothing giants Benetton; in Buenos Aires, the children of the disappeared are seeking to find out the truth of what happened to their parents at the hands of Argentina's generals; and in the pampas we meet one of the last true gauchos, whose way of life is being destroyed by an argricultural revolution. On the way, we take in one of the greatest matches in world football, visit a penguin colony on the edge, and meet a bishop with a rather unorthodox interest in Evita.

Ice Cream Options - Buenos Aires, Argentina Travel Guide Learn why Buenos Aires is said to have the world's best ice cream. So why is ice cream in Buenos Aires so good? First of all, it is the Argentinian milk. Second of all, there is dulce de leche, which is similar to caramel, and a national favorite. It adds a great flavor to the ice cream. "Ice cream in Buenos Aires is the best in the world because it is made with really high quality milk, and also, the Italian immigrants brought their tradition of making gelato to Buenos Aires. That is why it is so good, and there are so many really unusual flavors like rum flavored ice cream and different types of creams. It is really good". "I am eating coffee ice cream, and I picked the coffee flavor because Buenos Aires makes amazing coffee. I try and eat ice cream every time I can. There are thousands of different flavors, I usually get to pick two. They always make it so elegant in the cone. The whole experience just makes you happy. Sometimes if I am at home, I even order it in. They deliver it right to your house. I think the ice cream here is probably some of the best in the world". You should know how to order at these ice cream shops. First you choose the size cone you would like. Then you pay for it, then wait to be called. Then, tell the person behind the counter what flavor you would like. "I want one worth 5 pesos". Some of these shops are open well past midnight, and they even deliver. I am Gigi Sehr, showing you Buenos Aires.

Two v/line passenger trains were scheduled to cross close to my filming location, however the distant headlight from an SCT freight train got me hoping for a triple cross. Unfortunately the V/line Vlocity railcars were able to easily outpace the SCT freight train however I still managed to capture the freight train, the Vlocity, and a V/line "N class" locomotive hauled passenger train in the same shot. . A Specialised Container Transport (SCT) freight train service from Perth to Melbourne is well ahead of schedule with less than 30 minutes to go before it reaches its final destination of Laverton, on the outskirts of Melbourne. No doubt the impressive quad "SCT class" locomotive combination offering a combined total of over 17000hp has helped the train keep good speed all night. At 4:50am on 30/9/2010 the train is filmed passing through a country railway level crossing near Lara (Victoria). Amazingly the flashing lights, bells, and boom gates are still not enough to prevent some drivers from foolishly proceeding through level crossings when trains approach! . When you arrive in a new city it's always a good idea to look for the highest building and go up it to enjoy the best views. If you're in any other city this activity is just a suggestion, but in Melbourne coming to the Eureka Skydeck is a must. Let's see why! In Melbourne there is a building that literally stands out on the skyline. It's the Eureka Tower, a 300 meter tall tower that's over 90 stories high. When it was built in 2006 it was the world's tallest residential building. Every day, hundreds of visitors go up to the 88th floor to contemplate the panorama of the city from its many vantage points, and especially to have the extreme experience known as The Edge. The Edge is an opaque glass box you enter, and a mechanism slowly pushes it out from the building until it's suspended in mid-air 300 meters high. Then, the glass becomes transparent and there you are, hanging from a box with Melbourne at your feet.

Made by The Commonwealth Film Unit 1964. Directed by Richard Mason and Jack Lee. A scriptwriter and a director argue their approaches to the problem of a comprehensive documentary about Australia: one favours an experimental style, the other a more conventional approach. Excerpts, wittily observed, from both proposed films indicate the faults of each, and the problems of making such a film are chronicled with considerable humour. From the Tropics to the Snow gently acts out with comic irony a soft critique of the sunny image of Australia the Commonwealth Film Unit was expected to deliver overseas. Almost every year from its inception the Unit was expected to deliver one of these travelogues 'selling Australia' to prospective migrants; this version is a hilarious parody of that genre. The film is often cited as a turning point between the 'classic' documentary at the Unit and the emergence of a more adventurous period. It dramatises the very 'tensions' at play in the Unit between a new generation of young filmmakers with that of the old guard, while the Producer-in-Chief figure mediates between them. We see him reassure the Minister on the phone and fold and unfold a paper clip while his staff pitch him their differing visions for the grand travelogue film. The attractive secretary sits quietly in the corner taking short hand, occasionally acknowledging the admiring glances of the Producer-in-Chief. Winner of the Gold Award & the Kodak award for colour photography at the 1964 AFI awards, From the Tropics to the Snow is the best known of the travelogue films on Australia made by the Unit. To appreciate it fully, you should really see a dozen short films and travelogues of the previous few years first see Australian Diary. Then the scathingly witty script and music, the imagination of the production, the throwaway parodies of every known travel film clich_, are even more forceful. The film was, and still is, successful with all kinds of audiences. It became the landmark for the start of the new and lively period of government filmmaking which grew over the next decade. See a production still from the film here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nfsa/8755914814/
