A QRNational (QRN) Perth to Melbourne freight train races through a level crossing at 4:30am as the cold pre-dawn air makes me wonder why I get up so early to film trains. In the dark I thought I saw something unusual about the train's locomotives however it wasn't until I got home I discovered the three QRN 6000 class locomotives had been joined by a CFCLA VL class locomotive! Further investigations have since revealed four VL's have been leased by QRN to help ease a locomotive shortage. Amazingly the flashing lights, bells, and boom gates are still not enough to prevent some drivers from foolishly proceeding through level crossings when trains approach, however thankfully on this occasion the train encounters no such problems. Whether you're a pedestrian or in a vehicle always remember to obey the warning signs at level crossings, being hit by a train because you'd didn't take a few seconds to look in both directions is a dumb way to die. .
