I would like to give you a tour of the top ten attractions of Marrakech, Morocco. Number ten, Menara Gardens. Marrakech is known for its historic architecture and hospitality. Menara Gardens established hundreds of years ago are a great reflections of this city's beauty. Number nine, Souks. Another name for bazaars or markets, these have been here for a long time. They offer festive atmosphere and local scene that's a feast for the eyes. Number eight, Marrakech Gates. There are many striking gates along the city walls and palaces that have protected the city in the past. Number seven, local food. Moroccan cuisines is popular all around the world. It's very diverse due to the influences of many cultures on Morocco. The food containers here are just as appealing. Number six, Marrakech Museum. Located inside a former gorgeous palace, which is remarkably well preserved, the museum houses traditional and contemporary Moroccan art. Number five, carpets. Moroccan carpets are considered to be the finest in the world. If you have time for shopping, be sure to explore one of the many carpet shops in the city. Number four, local streets. Walking in the narrow streets of Marrakech is an excellent way to learn about how locals live today. Number three, Koutoubia Mosque. This is the largest and most famous mosque in Marrakech City. Constructed in the 12th century, this stunning landmark dominates the city skyline. Number two, El Bahia Palace. This beautiful palace was constructed in the 19th century. Intricate artwork can be witnessed outside as well as throughout the interiors of the former palace. And number one, Djemaa El Fna. It's the main square of city's medina, the 11th century historic area that is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. At any given night, it has a grand festival feel. One of the most beautiful towns we encountered in Morocco was also one of the most friendly and laidback. Located on the Atlantic coast just south of Tangier, Asilah is impossibly charming. The impressive portuguese ramparts enclose a meticulously restored medina. The wide sandy beaches are some of the best in the country and draw vacationers from all over the world. Despite the tourists here, the town manages to maintain its Moroccan identity. And it made a great stop over for us for a few days.

Morocco has something for everyone from water sports to camel safaris, ancient roman ruins to medieval islamic cities, long beaches to long mountain trails. With our daughter, Abi, however we had to cut back our normal adventurous inclinations and simplify things. So our main goal was to enjoy the many ancient medinas across the country, soak up the culture, enjoy the beaches and find whatever adventure came our way. Take a tour of Kasbah Taourirt in Ouarzazate, Morocco -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. An imposing and ancient structure of Ouarzazate, Morocco is the former palace, Kasbah Taourirt. In a climate as pitiless and harsh as Ouarzazate's, this structure acts as a defensive center for city. The kasbah is full of charismatic turrets, gardens, and rooms with unique geometric patterns and shapes. The primary overseers of Kasbah Taourirt, the el Glaoui clan, controlled most of West Africa until the independence of Morocco in 1956. Built solely of clay and straw, the kasbah has an adobe composition with colors reflecting those of its surrounding Saharan landscape. Many visitors who tour this great historical structure are awed by the astonishing interior of Kasbah Taourirt.

The famous Blue Doors of Chefchaouen. Not all of them. But on our all day walk, it felt like we saw all the doors in the whole city.
