Traditional Chilean seafood on a boat restaurant in Valparaiso. Other Information: Restaurant Featured Caleta Portales Phone: (56)625614 Caleta Portales is a restaurant specializing in seafood right on the beach front. The restaurant has excellent views of the beach and the city. "We have chosen to focus on traditional food." I have a lot of seafood before me. It is over whelming, so we are going to take this step by step. This is an appitizer called jardin de la mariscos, or garden of seafood. It has ten types of cold seafood. Shrimp, choitos, crab, locos, kikoroko, oysters, machas, chivicha de covina, the white fish cooked in lemon juice with onion and biute', which is considered an afrodesiac, because it is very high on iodine. Many of these are only found on the Chilean coast. That is why there is no translation. "The Seafood Garden (Jardin de Mariscos), is delicious but my favorite is the grilled seafood (Parrillada de Mariscos). It has oysters, shrimp, kalamari, machas, kikoroko, choritos and locos. For the fish we has salmon and marloosa, another Chilean type of seafood. Now we are going to try combia bortalias, which is the specialty of the house. It is a white fish in a seafood sauce with mushrooms and shrimp. As always, you must accompany seafood with a delicious white wine. And Chile has many. At Caleta Portales, the drink of the house is Bisto Sour. The special recipe they prepare with lime. That really makes a difference. This ship sails everyday from twelve o'clock to eleven o'clock. On weekends be sure to make reservations. The average price of a meal for one person is 8 thousand pesos, wine included. Here at Caleta Portales, you can also get the menu in English. It is ten minutes away from the historical center of Valparaiso. It is easily accessible by buses, taxi and it even has a metro station right outside. If you want to watch Valparaiso's famous firework shows, on New Years Eve, be sure to make a reservation here at Caleta Portales, in October. I am Helia Goodman, showing you Valparaiso.

A bohemian neighborhood full of art galleries, restaurants, and bars. Let's take a tour of the fascinating neighborhood of Bellavista in the city of Santiago. The neighborhood of Bellavista was founded in 1891 by the same owner of the vineyard (?). Bellavista has a strong Bohemian feel, there are many old, beautiful buildings and it is very popular amongst the artists. We are in the residential neighborhood of Bellavista. Lots of pretty houses, tree lined streets, it does not get much better than this. Look, we even found a spider web gate. Not surprisingly there are many art galleries and theaters all around Bellavista. One of Bellavista's most popular attractions, just might be Pablo Neruda's house "La Chascona." Pablo Neruda is Chile's Noble Prize winning poet. Outside his house you can find plaques engraved with his poetry. The house is shaped like a boat and it contains all of Pablo Neruda's antique collection, it is also open to the public. Here, we can see Pablo Neruda's emblem. See these old warehouses? They are actually Rock music venues. Bellavista is also the place to find "Lapislazuli Jewelry." Lapislazuli is a beautiful blue gem stone found only in Chile and Afghanistan. You can find the Lapislazuli shops all along the Mayan history. When you are shopping for Lapislazuli, remember, all these shops have around the same prices and the same merchandise. At night, Bellavista really comes alive. This is what Bellavista is like at night full of night clubs, pubs and restaurants. The party here starts at eleven o'clock and do not worry because the bars close at four. The national drink here is the Bisco Sour. I am Helia Goodman, showing you Santiago.

Hi, I'm Naomi and I'm very excited to show you the world's greatest attractions. Silent and haunting, the statues of Easter Island stand as guardians to the eternal sea. One of the most isolated islands in the world, Easter Island radiates with mystery. The island statues are said to represent the islanders' ancestors, providing help and power to the living. Other names for Easter Island include "Navel of the World" and "Eyes Looking to the Sky". It remains a mystery today how early inhabitants were able to erect the massive stone heads. The stone heads remain fascinating representations of a lost world and a reminder of what once was. Easter Island continues to be one of the most unique places on earth. This is the world's oldest Spanish newspaper in circulation. And where is it printed? Right here, in Chile's port city, Valparaiso. Located 120 kilometers from Santiago, Valparaiso's population is about a quarter of a million. Valparaiso gained worldwide attention in the 19th century when it was a major port for sea trade between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Later, much of that activity shifted to the Panama Canal. Valparaiso is still Chile's main port, but the reason you want to come here is because it is one of Chile's most picturesque and unique cities. The house are set up along the serros, or hills, and they are painted in bright color. We are going to walk up and check out the beautiful view at the top. It is not easy, considering that some hills at a 45 degree angle. All right. So I just made it to the top. It is an exhausting climb, but the view is well worth it. If you do not want to walk up the steep hill, you can take the elevator, or ascensore, for only a 100 pesos. There are 15 elevators, or funiculars, all around Valaparaiso and they are all declared world monuments. During your walk you will come across some beautiful mansions, as well as some more modest homes. This building is Municipal Museum of belas artes, or fine arts, it is old, beautiful and unique. Chile's Nobel Prize-winning poet, Pablo Neruda, has one of his house right here, in Valaparaiso. It is called Casa Museo la Sebastiana. Right now I am in front of Hotel Gran Gervasoni. It is built right into the hillside, and it is a great option to stay at. Another great option is to stay at antique houses that have been turned into bed and breakfasts. They come in all price ranges, but try to stay in one that is up on the hill and not in the center of town. It is more peaceful and the views are much better. Valparaiso is famous all over Chile for its nightlife. A lot of bars can be found in Plaza Sotomayor, Cerro Bellavista, and downtown. Due to its beauty and Pablo Neruda, this city attracts lots of artists and writers. As you walk around the town, you will notice lots of murals and graffiti, which really make the city come alive with color. If you want to experience something really special, celebrate New Year's Eve right here, in Valparaiso. There is an excellent fireworks show, but be careful, you need to make your reservations months in advance. This is a safe city, but camera snatching is common, so watch out. Since Valaparaiso is such a unique city, it has been placed on UNESCO's world heritage list, and it is an important cultural center for Chile. I am Helia Goodman, showing you Valparaiso.

The park where locals go to escape the city. Santiago can be a very hectic place, but if you want to get away from it all, there is no better place than Cerro Santa Lucia. Come on, let's go. It is about 20 minutes to get to the top, and for you non-athletic types, you can take an elevator. Cerro Santa Lucia is a lush park that is filled with historical buildings, monuments and fountains. Right here is the Magic Fountain, or Fuenta Magica, which you can see as you enter the park from the Alameda side. There are many ways to get to the top, but the Alameda is the most beautiful and the most difficult. Castillo Hidalgo was built in the 19th century and these days is a popular place for weddings. It is now run by a private company, so it is closed to the public. But you can admire the beautiful architecture from the outside. This spot is said to be where the Spanish conquerer, Don Pedro de Valdivia, found the city of Santiago. When you are here, in Cerro Santa Lucia, pay attention because some of the trees have their name written on them and it is a great place to learn about Chilean plant life. Initially the hill was the city's lookout point for defense, but in those days it was not as green as it is today. The turning point came in the late 19th century when several hundred prisoners were assigned to turn the hill into the beautiful green park we see today. This is a statue of mapuche Caupolican to commemorate the fight of the indiginious people against the Spanish conquerers. Everyday at noon a cannon strikes 12:00 from here, at Cerro Santa Lucia. It can be heard throughout Santiago. The first archbishop of Chile is buried right here, in Cerro Santa Lucia. Behind me is Cerro San Cristobal. And all around us are the mountains, but you cannot see them because of the smog in the summertime. It is best to visit the park during the day for safety reasons. I am Helia Goodman, showing you Santiago.

See where the locals go for fresh seafood. Right now we are at Mercado Central, or Central Market. Which is the best place to get seafood. We are only 3 blocks away from Plaza De Armas in the heart of downtown. Look at the fancy iron work. This building is over 100 years old. But the seafood, no more than a day. Chile is famous for its seafood and there is much more than Chilian sea bass. See that big fish? That's a Chilian sea bass and the fish is actually coming out of his mouth. Here we have giant squid. Or in Spanish Jibia. You can find machas also. Shell fish. You do not believe it is fresh? Look it still has its last dinner in its mouth. What we have here is Picalocos. It is a type of shell fish and it is still alive. You can find it in the Finda Marina which is a Chlian type of soup, that has all the seafood you could imagine. Here we have king crab or in Spanish, centoya. Very expensive and hard to find. This is adjeso. You can find this prepared here in Chile with lemon, onion and some herbs or they can make a souffle out of it. When they come to the market they are still alive and they have these interesting spines on them. This is what we call locos. You can find it here at the market. Usually it is supposed to be boiled with some mayonnaise. And it is delicious. Here we have beute, it is really high on iodine and it is a vitamin rush. On the sides of the market, next to the seafood stands, you can find some cheaper restaurants. Be warned, tons of waiters and salesmen will try get you too eat in their restaurants. Just say, "No gratias". Fish is not the only thing they sell here. You can also find vegetables, meat and natural herbs. The local tradition is to come here after a party. There is nothing like raw seafood to restore your energy after a night of partying. I am Helia Goodman, showing you Santiago.

The second part of Trekking the circuit trail at "Torres del Paine" in Patagonia (Chile) covers my journey from Los Cuernos to Campamento Torres & the Torres del Paine as well as the trail from Campamento Torres to Campamento Serón. SANTIAGO DE CHILE, THE BEST PLACE TO GO IN 2011, ACCORDING TO THE NEW YORK TIMES! Undaunted by an earthquake, a city embraces modern culture. Less than a year after an 8.8-magnitude earthquake wreaked havoc in Chile, its capital, Santiago, has largely recovered, the economy continues to grow, and tourism is in an upswing. Though the quake, which caused hundreds of casualties, was centered more than 200 miles away, many of Santiago's older buildings were damaged, including the Museum of Fine Arts. But the earthquake last year — and another in Chile last week that caused more panic than damage — seems to have only briefly paused a cultural shift that had begun to take hold in the city. Known as a buttoned-up place, Santiago has in recent years added modern museums, smartly designed hotels and sophisticated restaurants. The city has become decidedly more vibrant. This year, it has even been chosen as the first foreign city to host a rather unbuttoned event: Lollapalooza. The 20-year-old American music festival picked Santiago for its first overseas outing because of its open space and the variety of cultural offerings, and because locals have a passion for contemporary music, said Lollapalooza's founder, the musician Perry Farrell. The festival takes place in April in O'Higgins Park. This musical awakening owes much to the government's investment in the arts. The new Centro Gabriela Mistral, for example, a 200,000-square-foot center made of glass and weathering steel, has a varied calendar of concerts, dance performances, plays and art exhibits. Perhaps the most remarkable cultural space to open in the last few years is the Museo de la Moda, a privately financed fashion museum inside a revamped 1960s Modernist mansion. It has a permanent collection of nearly 10,000 pieces of couture and memorabilia (of which 800 are typically on display), including a light-blue jacket worn in 1966 by John Lennon and a black strapless gown worn in 1981 by Diana, Princess of Wales. Luxury hotels are not new to Santiago, but when the W opened in 2009, it was the first to feature truly modern design. The recently opened Aubrey is equally chic and much more intimate. With an attractive mix of vintage and new furniture (Tom Dixon lamps, 19th-century Parisian rugs, tufted leather sofas), the 15-room property raised the bar for boutique lodgings in the city. It occupies two renovated residences in the Bellavista neighborhood, a creative district where Lollapalooza's fans would feel right at home.

Veronica Hill of http://www.CaliforniaTravelExpert.com and the California Essential Guide app checks in at Radiator Springs for a special tour of Cars Land. Cars Land completed a billion-dollar expansion at Disney California Adventure , which took 5 years to complete. And guess what? It was worth the wait. No detail was overlooked in this faithful recreation of the movie — from the blinking street light on Route 66, to the awesome mountain range that overlooks the valley. Be sure to grab a Radiator Springs Racers Fast Pass when you arrive. Then just kick back, and enjoy the ride! You can spin and whirl on a bed of air at Luigi's Flying Tires, then get into the swing of things at Mater's Junkyard Jamboree. The Cozy Cone Motel is a restaurant in Cars Land that's modeled after the famous Wigwam Motel in San Bernardino. The restaurant sells everything in a cone — from popcorn and pretzel bites, to their famous Chicken Chile Verde and Chili Cone Queso recipe. I recommend the Pomegranate Limeade, which comes in kid-friendly — or adult creations. The Motel hosts meet-and-greets with Mater and Lightning McQueen throughout the day, so be sure to pop by the lobby and say hello. For more good eats, check out Flo's V8 Cafe, which was modeled after the homestyle diners found along the Mother Road. One of their specialties are Flo's homemade pies! And if you're looking for a healthy snack, Fillmore's Taste In has you covered with ice cold waters, drinks and fresh cut fruit. You'll find plenty of Cars souvenirs inside three gift shops. Ramone's House of Body Art sells a variety of Cars merchandise, while Radiator Springs Curios sells an awesome assortment of Route 66 souvenirs. At Sarge's Surplus Hut, you can stock up on a variety Disney collectibles and treats. Before you leave, check out the Blue Sky Cellar, which highlights the construction of Cars Land. This is also a great spot to catch the Pixar Play Parade, or watch Radiator Springs as it lights up in neon after dark. It's one of the best photo-opps in the park! Thanks for joining us in Cars Land! We'll see you next time!
