But back in South Sudan, the fighting continued. Both sides hope to gain territory to strengthen their position at the bargaining table. Rebels captured the city of Bor days ago; now the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) is trying to win it back. Bor is 125 slow, painful miles from the capital city of Juba—a trip made far quicker by helicopter. And so VICE flew to the front lines with the SPLA.
