São Paulo has the some of the worst traffic problems and highest public transit fees in Brazil. We followed a protest for the Free Pass Movement that started with a peaceful march and ended in the violent clubbing of enraged protestors. -- In October 2012, just before the São Paulo mayoral elections, we followed the Free Pass Movement of Sao Paulo in their celebrations of the National Day of the Free Pass. They have celebrated the date since 2005 to mark the victory of the Florianópolis MPL chapter, when the population surrounded the City Hall until a bill guaranteeing a Free Pass on public transport for students was approved. Today the fight for a free pass on public transport is not only for students, but for everyone. Yet despite large protests occurring all over Brazil, they remain largely invisible to mainstream media — but not to the batons from the local police. -- Click here to watch "Teenage Riots in Sweden" now: http://bit.ly/Teenage-Riots-in-Sweden Subscribe to VICE here! http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE Check out our full video catalog: http://bit.ly/VICE-Videos Videos, daily editorial and more: http://vice.com Like VICE on Facebook: http://fb.com/vice Follow VICE on Twitter: http://twitter.com/vice Read our tumblr: http://vicemag.tumblr.com
