A V/Line passenger train led by an N class diesel locomotive powers along the Geelong to Melbourne line at sunrise, and is seen as it passes through a railway level crossing (aka "grade crossing") near Little River, Victoria. Amazingly some motorists will still ignore warning bells, flashing lights, and boom gates in an attempt to save a few seconds on their journey. Whether you're a pedestrian or in a vehicle always remember to obey the warning signs at level crossings, being hit by a train because you'd didn't take a few seconds to look in both directions is a dumb way to die. The N Class diesel locomotives have been operated by V/Line since 1985, and used almost exclusively on passenger train services. Their 2500hp EMD engines easily handle the typical load of between 3 and 8 passenger carriages. The recent gauge conversion of the line between Melbourne and Albury means a small number of N class locomotives have been gauge converted from broad gauge to standard gauge to operate the passenger services on that line. A ready to run HO scale model of the N class locomotive was released by Auscision Models in November 2010, details are on their website www.auscisionmodels.com.au.
