While the city overall is a dusty and noisy shithole, the old quarter is an amazing, calm and magical spot. Towering above it is the Jodhpur Fort, a.k.a. Mehrangarh Fort, the largest and possibly the awesomest fort in all of India. Maintained in phenomenal condition, full of amazing stuff, and kitted out with one of the BEST audio tours I have ever heard, this fort is a must-do even if your mom has cancer and you need to fly home. Seriously. Amazing. The audio tour is so well put together, I decided to let it take you on todays tour instead of the annoying buzz-buzzzz-buzzzz of my voice. Enjoy.

Jaipur popularly known as the Pink City, is the capital of Rajasthan state, India. Historically rendered as Jeypore, Jaipur is the former capital of the princely state of Jaipur. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, the ruler of Amber, the city today has a population of more than 5 million residents. Built of pink stucco in imitation of sandstone, the city is remarkable among pre-modern Indian cities for the width and regularity of its streets which are laid out into six sectors separated by broad streets 111 ft (34 m) wide. The urban quarters are further divided by networks of gridded streets. Five quarters wrap around the east, south, and west sides of a central palace quarter, with a sixth quarter immediately to the east. The Palace quarter encloses a sprawling palace complex (the Hawa Mahal, or palace of winds), formal gardens, and a small lake. Nahargarh Fort crowns the hill in the northwest corner of the old city. Another noteworthy building is Sawai Jai Singh's observatory, Jantar Mantar.

Mumbai: Many Michael Jackson fans across the world are sad at having lost that one opportunity to see the superstar in person, but a lucky girl in Mumbai not only got to see him but also hugged and danced with him. Thirteen-years ago, when Piya Thakkar stood in line to watch the historic Michael Jackson concert in Mumbai, little did she know that she'd come out a mini-celebrity herself. It was an act Michael Jackson performed in every city during his History tour - dancing with a girl to his hit song You Are Not Alone and in Mumbai Piya was the lucky girl. "Suddenly I was known as the girl who danced with Michael Jackson and I lost all other identity. I hugged him and he was trying to slow dance with me and then he just went down on his knees and I was so shocked," says Piya Thakkar. Some fans had to be pulled away by security, others cried, and still more sat down on the stage in disbelief. Piya showed her loyalty by refusing to bathe or change clothes she'd worn at the concert for days. "I didn't bathe for just about one-and-a-half days, but the number of days was exaggerated a little in reports, but then I realised I couldn't go on like this so I got over it after two days," says she. It's no wonder then that when the news of Jackson's death flashed on TV screens across the world, Piya felt an almost personal loss. "I'm not that much of a cry baby but for the past two-three days it's been consuming me. I just wish he'd died with all the legacy he deserved," says she. And in making that wish for the late King of Pop, Piya is certainly not alone in the world.

Pakistan put on 157 and India only got close thanks to an 18-ball 53 from a 16-year-old Sachin Tendulkar. One over from Abdul Qadir read: 6, 0, 4, 6 6 6. It announced Tendulkar to the world. Abdul Qadir The game was being played in the festive spirit. I had just bowled a maiden to Krishnamachari Srikkanth and I went to Sachin, who was the non-striker, and told him that when I bowled him the next over he shouldn't treat me as Abdul Qadir, but just as any other bowler from his galli or school, and go for his shots, as that would be good for his future. He was just a young boy then and I wanted to give him confidence. He just smiled at me and didn't say anything. Next over when I came on to bowl to him, he stepped out to hit the first ball for six over long-off. He was dropped at midwicket later in that over as he tried for another big one, but he managed three more sixes. It wasn't like I was just feeding him: I was trying my best to get him out, but he was just so talented that he gave me no chance. Interviewed by Nagraj Gollapudi. Sachin Tendulkar When I came in to bat we needed 69 runs in five overs or so. I had a go at Mushtaq Ahmed who had taken two wickets and hit him for a couple of sixes. Qadir then came up to me said, "Bachchon ko kyon mar rahe ho? Hamein bhi maar dikhao" ("Why are you only hitting the kid? Hit me too.") Qadir was a great bowler and I was only playing my first series. I didn't say anything, but it fired me up. I took up the challenge and gave it a go. Ultimately we fell short only by four runs. Krishnamachari Srikkanth This innings was played at a time when nobody knew about Sachin and what he was capable of, so it was totally unexpected. Watching him from the other end, I was astonished at the kind of shots he played and especially the way he took on Qadir. It is unfortunate that that match isn't an official ODI, for it was one of the best innings I have seen.

In Februaury, 32 Latvian tourists visited Isha Yoga Center through the Omkar and Yatra Group Tour company. They stayed at the center for 4 days, immersing themselves in the activities of the Yoga Center, despite no previous exposure to yoga. Omkar Tour Group had organized the visit, as the tour operator in Latvia had previously visited the Dhyanalinga Yogic Temple and wanted the tour participants to experience the place. The Latvian group participated in volunteering at center, learned some basic yogic practices, and even participated in the Poornami Pooja, which happens at the Linga Bhairavi Temple. November 1, 1996: In Bombay, India, 85% of the proceeds from one concert were put aside for the 'Shiv Udyog Sena' to help create jobs for 270,000 young people in the state of Maharashtra. Viraf Sarkari said, "It was a charity show. Not even a penny was charged." Michael arrived in Mumbai on October 30th at Mumbai's Sahar airport, was greeted by Sonali Bendre clad in a nine-yard sari and a Maharashtrian nathni standing with an aarti thali to welcome MJ, along with Raj Thackeray, Sharmila Thackeray and innumerable politicians who were there to receive Jackson. Upon arriving in Bombay, Michael asks his driver to stop the motorcade transporting him from the airport to his hotel to allow him to spend 20 minutes talking with children playing in the crowded slums he must pass en route. He then spent a few minutes with them before he proceeded to the Shiv Sena chief, Bal Thackeray's residence. On January 25, 1997: Michael waved his personal fee for his Bombay appearance and donated $ 1.1 million to a local charity helping to educate children living in slums.
